Ara was the only one who didn't enter the strange room. While the others went in and set Corby down on the bed, he stayed outside, eyes ever-watchful and ears pricked to pick up the slightest sound.
There's something out there. There's something out there that shouldn't be there. It wants to hurt us, of that I'm sure.
Nothing moved in the stillness of the corridoor. Not even one of the rouge appliances was wandering about. Ara was sure they'd sensed the dark thing too, and were probably either preparing themselves for their arrival or hiding and hoping they wouldn't be noticed.
Which was exactly what his instincts were telling him to do right now.
The evil presence terrifed the Halfborn, the sheer malice of it made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. He'd never felt anything like this before, never known such twisted anger and malicious envy. It was all new to him. And it scared him.
But I can't just run away and let it get them. I can at least try and fight it off, slow it down before it does anything horrific.
I won't abandon anyone else.
The darkness in the air was growing stronger by the moment. The monster was gathering it's strength. Probably planning to attack them at any moment, thought Ara darkly. Waiting to ambush them and take from them whatever it could take. Like it had done to Jyll and Corby.
The thought of these people, his friends, being threatened by this evil thing made Ara snarl with anger. No, he wasn't going to run away. He'd lost enough people through his cowardice.
This thing is going to strike soon, I can feel it. It's going to come for us, hunt us down one by one.
Well, it's going to have to go through me.
