Amelia sat on the bed in the little room she'd been given. She was still in slight shock over what had happened in the last 24 hours. She went from having parents and no chance of even stepping foot in Summershore Collage to having no parents and working at the collage. It was a lot to take in.

Before she knew it, Amelia was waking up after a full night's rest. She hadn't even realized that she'd gone to sleep. Looking at the time, she silently cursed herself for sleeping in. Not a good way to start her first day.

She quickly threw on her uniform, slipped her hair into a ponytail, and ran down the stairs. She was stopped at the bottom by the cook.

"Hey, are you the new girl?" she asked gruffly.

Amelia gulped as she nodded, not wanting to get reprimanded on her first day. The cook just nodded and gestured towards the stairs Amelia had just run down. It was the grand staircase. Of course.

"The polish and rag are in the closet over there." Cook said, pointing a crooked finger in the corner. "Come find me when you're done."

Amelia nodded and set to work. She spent all day cleaning, polishing, waxing, dusting, sweeping, mopping; you name it, she did it.

Her last job for the day was to sweep and mop a small hallway, and to finish the big hallway when she got up the next morning. Unfortunately, that also included every single room on the hallway.

By that time, her ponytail had come loose and strands of hair hung in her face. But she was too focused on her work to notice.

She opened the door to yet another classroom, not noticing at first the small crowd gathered at the back of the room.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" she said, clearly surprised and taken off guard. "Am I interrupting something?"
