Cancer: dragged back

"Luca!" the voice says down the phone. At first I don't recognise the voice. Or realise who it might be. Gemme is pretty much the only person that actually calls me by my name. Which is fine by me. It's a rubbish name.

"Who is this?" I ask with a sigh.

"It's Arch, Thorn got hit by a dart thing!" she sounds kinda panicked. I guess I don't blame her. I wouldn't be feeling so brilliant if Gemme had been shot with a dart thing. "He's passed out!" she cries. I hold the phone away from my ear for a moment wincing at the volume of her voice.

"Chill," I mutter when I put the phone back to my ear. "A dart thing?"

"Yeah, I pulled it out but he's not waking up!" I bury my face in my free hand and groan. I shouldn't have thought about the zodiacs. I jinxed the silence. Go me. I'm torn between throwing the phone over into the kid's playground and just taking those drugs. I can't be bothered with this right now.

"And don't tell me, you want me to be your miracle worker." I light a cigarette and sit back. "I'll see what I can do. I dunno if I can get away from work," I say. Well it's kinda true. If you call dealing work. I kinda doubt that you would, but y'know. I don't wait for her to say anything more, hanging up before I get too pissed off. I don't wanna get dragged back into this. I already escaped from the anti-zodiac goons once, and that was painful enough.

I don't wanna have to do it again.

I don't really wanna leave Gemme, or drag her into any of this either. I sigh again, knowing I should go and help them. More because I know how painful it is to be separated from someone you love than anything else.

Finally the guy I'm supposed to be selling to turns up and for a while, I'm distracted.

The End
