I couldn't help but grin. I hadn't realized how much I'd missed my family in the long hours in prison aboard Madame Kovarian's ship.
Poor Matthew was still in a daze, staring about him in awe of the TARDIS. I was half afraid that seeing the core of the planet might put him off the deep end. But my worrying was for nothing.
I stepped out, following Dad into the heart of the dead world.
I found myself standing on a red sphere in the middle of inky blackness. Dad was kneeling a few feet away, examining something circular and silver lying on the ground. Mum was standing behind him.
"What's that?" I asked him, walking towards them.
"Nothing," He stuffed it into his coat pocket, standing sharply.
Matthew and Bellona came up on either side of me.
"Some nothing," Matthew muttered, echoing my words from aboard the Madame's ship. Bellona snorted in agreement.
I shook my head, laughing. I always managed to find the strangest bunch of friends - Matthew and Bellona were no exception.
"Oh hush, the lot of you," Mum snapped, a smile teasing the corner of her mouth.
Dad spread his hands grandly, "We came, we saw - hey watch this!" He ran off into the distance.
"Sweetie?!" Mum called after him.
"Just a mo!" He cried, vanishing from sight.
"Hello!" I jumped three feet in the air, spinning around to see him grinning behind me like a loon.
"What the hell?!"
He roared with laughter, "The core is extremely small. You can run all the way around it in less than a minute!"
"Alright, let's go before the whole planet explodes," Mum gasped, trying to contain her laughter.
"Idiot," Bellona muttered, eyeballing Dad's bowtie once again.
Matthew simply glanced between Mum and Dad, shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly.
I giggled, slinging my arm around Matthew's shoulder. His response to that was to then sweep me off my feet and twirl around with me.
"Put me down you big brute!" I squealed.
He set me down, panting.
"You probably hurt yourself again doing that," I told him, pointing where the gash on his stomach was.
His eyes grew wide, glancing down. "Oh. I didn't think about that,"
Bellona chuckled, hanging on our shoulders, "Let's get off this damn planet once and for all shall we?"
Together, we walked back into the TARDIS.
Dad shut the doors, spinning round to face us.
"There is a beautiful jungle planet called Metamosa where the diamonds are as big as elephants," His blue-green eyes twinkled with anticipation.
"Shall I?" Mum grasped one of the many levers on the controls.
Dad grinned, "Be my guest,"
The engines ground together from the parking brakes and with a mighty roar, we launched into the Time Vortex, flying at the speed of sound to who knows where....
All while Matthew held me close, wrapped into his warm embrace.
