I watched the world around me crumble to pieces. Death was around every corner, in the form of walking, ravenous corpses that tore the flesh from your bones and devoured it whole. There was nothing human about them, not anymore. The same blank, detached look was present in every pair of eyes, the same pallid skin tone and many sported multiple wounds that should have resulted in death.  In a matter of days the world had gone from relatively normal to catastrophically abysmal.

It was soon that I realized though, that the corpses weren’t the worst things to fear. Now that there was no authority to uphold any form of law, the scum of the world surfaced. Thieves, murders, rapists - they were worse than zombies. I was thankful I hadn’t encountered any first hand but it was only a matter of time. Sure, you could be eaten alive, but at least the…zombies (I hated using that word) only wanted to eat you… I know it doesn’t sound entirely appeasing, but the people that knew what they were doing… They were going to be the worst.

Lucky for me I wasn’t alone. I had my parents, for starters. I wasn’t entirely sure how they were going to react in this upcoming apocalypse, but honestly can anyone truly say how they are going to prepare for something like this? Sure, you may fantasize about it after watching Dawn of the Dead or something, but it’s not until you're staring death in the eyes that you find out what you’re truly capable of. Living each day in constant fear… you never get used to it, but you learn to work around it.

The End
