Kyle: I Have To GoMature

Danny wasn’t at school the next day. I had to have done something wrong. Maybe I shouldn’t have told him about looking out for him... Shit, what if I offended him? I might not show it but I actually kinda like the guy. He’s nice to be around. The day passed by agonisingly slowly, each minute feeling more and more like an hour. Why was everything going so slow? I have no idea. It might’ve had something to do with the fact that I’d been asked to give Danny’s math homework to him. Which means going to his house...

“Thomas” someone said harshly, shoving me against my locker.

I looked up and saw none other than Josh Quinn. Josh Quinn was a fucking tank. He worked out compulsively and could easily floor the entire football in one go. I glanced up at him.

“Heard the new guy’s a faggot”

“Yeah, he is”

“I thought I made it clear the next one was mine?” he growled, clamping a hand down on my shoulder. Ow.

“You said the next new kid was yours and aren’t you forgetting that girl that transferred in from Wisconsin? Yeah, you lucked out this time, buddy”

He chuckled. “You’re a mouthy little shit, aren’t you?”

“I would’ve thought you’d realised that by now since you’ve known me since, what, kindergarten?”

He squeezed my shoulder. “Listen, Thomas, I tell you what’s gonna happen. You’re gonna hand the new guy over to me and I won’t smash your face in. Sound fair?”

“No, not really”

“Okay then, you hand him over to me and I still smash your face in”

“How about I don’t hand anybody over and you don’t touch my face?”

“You need to learn to shut your mouth”

“Your girlfriend needs to learn to shut her legs” Did I mention his girlfriend’s my ex?

He glared at me. “What did you say?”

“Your girlfriend. She’s a bit of a whore, isn’t she?”

He smirked. “You’re so dead”

I knocked on Danny’s door, ignoring the sting in my lip. I’d done my best to stop the bleeding but I felt something dribble out every now and then. Josh had only managed to split my lip because I kicked him in the balls and ran for it. You really think I stood a chance against someone like him? "Oh my God, Kyle, what happened? Come in, come in!" Danny said, shutting the door behind me.

"I come bearing math homework" I smiled, wincing a little because it kind of hurt.

"Oh, I don't care about that!" he took my face in his hands, turning it left and right. "Whatever happened to your lip?"

"Josh Quinn happened"

He growled, taking a quick look in my eyes before sighing, "I suppose it was a stupid reason why he did it."

"Oh Kyle..." He paused, shying away with a blush. "Let me get you some ice for that."

"Don't worry about it"

"Shush, of course I will, come on. Sit down." He disappeared and came back with an ice pack.

"Danny, it's fine"

"No, no."

He passed me the ice pack and I took it. Doesn’t mean I used it.

I looked at him.

"Oh fine, but don't say I don't worry," he sat down opposite me, "thanks for bringing my homework."

"It was no trouble"

He looked at the floor then glanced up at me slightly. "I wish I was there today."

"I wouldn't have let him do that to you."

I shrugged. "It was my own fault"

"Did you do anything wrong?"

"I may have called his girlfriend a whore"

"I would have still stood up for you," he murmured.

"I can look after myself"

"I know you could, I just..." he sighed, "never mind."

"Don't be surprised if I'm not around for the next few days"

"When Josh Quinn's pissed off with you, you stay out of his way unless you have a death wish"

"Hmm, I'll make him pay for that. I don't care what you said."

"That's stupid"

That's me," he shrugged, looking straight at me. "He'll pay."

"Don't blame me when he kicks your ass"

"I don't care, it'll be worth it. Bastard."

"If you do anything to him I can't look out for you"

"I don't need you to look out for me."

"Then every homophobe in the school's gonna zone in on you and make your life hell"

"I'll live."

I sighed.

"Look at your lip! You didn't really deserve that! How dare he?"

"That's what school's like here! We've all gotten used to it and so should you"

"Why should I? I've always fought for what I love!"

"The sooner you accept it, the... Wait, what?"

"Nothing. It was nothing."

I eye him suspiciously. Did he have the hots for me?

"I... I'm being stupid. Ignore me."

"Yeah, well, don't go after Josh"

"Why do you care?"

"Because I don't want you getting hurt"

He paused then reached out, running his finger over my bottom lip. "You should stay off anyway. Let the swell go down..."

I didn’t say anything. His breathing became a little heavy and he turned away from me again. I’ll admit I was kind of curious.

"I don't want to make another mistake. I don't want to push you away..." he murmured.

"I tried to kiss you yesterday and I'm sorry."

I looked down at the floor. I’d tried to convince myself that it was nothing but I guess knew now...

"I don't want to make the same mistake, that's all."

I stayed silent for a while. "I have to go"

"Wait, Kyle, I'm sorry!"

"For what?"

"I must've done something, why are you leaving?"

"I just have to go, okay"

"Oh, okay..." he said, following me to the door.

"I'll see you whenever"

"Yeah. Bye."

He’d barely shut the door before I dashed over to my house. Fuck, this wasn’t good.

The End
