"Holy--" I yelled an unnecessary profanity as I backed away, stumbling quickly over my own feet. Crackling crimson lightning writhed and spiralled around his arms as I tumbled onto the ground. "What the hell is going on?!"
Zane was still screaming and shaking his hands. As he shook his balled fists, he extended his fingers, whipping them around. As he did, the lightning exploded around his fingers, shooting out in lightning bolts. The slithering scarlet energy scorched the sole of my shoe as I rolled away. "ZANE!" exclaimed Kristen, diving away as another lightning bolt struck the now corroded sidewalk. Her hair was singed by the bolt, and Nick ran up behind Zane, pulling his arms behind his back. Zane yelled in pain as the lightning subsided.
I breathed heavily as I stood, brushing myself off. Nick still hadn't let go of Zane, and his powerful arms were still wrapped around the writhing, stormy-eyed kid. "Let go of me! Let go!"
"No! You're only going to do that freaky zap thing again! How the hell did you do that?! You could have killed someone!"
"How am I supposed to know? Let go! I didn't mean to! I don't know how it happened!" No one would stop yelling!
"What do you mean you don't know--"
"I mean I don't know! It just happened. I got mad, and it happened!" he writhed again.
"Stop. Writhing." Nick said calmly. Suddenly, he was thrown backwards, spasming on the ground. Thin bolts of lightning jumped from his skin like acrobatic worms. Zane's newly electric arms were dimmed, and the energy vanished.
"Damn it, Zane!" I exclaimed. He looked at me angrily, and the energy flared around him again. Just as it flew towards me, I threw up my hands. A spectrum of light caught the suddenly distorted atmosphere surrounding my outstretched fingers, and it flared a bright coloured blue. The strange energy-like wave absorbed the lightning and rippled back at Zane.
If you've ever looked at the sun for a long time and then blinked, you would see a colourful spectrum behind your eyelids. That's what I'd just... created. Zane was sent hurtling onto the grassy area of the park field as the messed up light collided with his body. I stared wide eyed at my hands. I'm a flipping freak! So is Zane! What the f--
My thoughts were interrupted by Nick's hand on my shoulder. "How did you do that?"
"Honestly, I don't know. But I think me and Zane's freakshow just there might have something to do with what we all did yesterday night, and I don't think it has anything to do with roofies or any drug..."
