I took a deep breath spilled out my plan, hoping it was good.
"So Cole and I are going to go to the mall, you know, the one next to y'all's work? There, we're going to talk, flirt, anything to get my dad's attention. Meanwhile, with my dad distracted, Shote's going to sneak into his office and steal all of his files. As soon as my dad is close enough, we teleport to Shote, and then again back to this house."
I looked at them. Shote looked indifferent, but Cole had a glint of doubt in his eyes. "But Allison, if you teleport too much…"
I shook my head, stopping his complaint. "Don't Cole. I'll be fine."
He still looked doubtful, but he nodded. I sighed and smiled, turning to face both of them. "Have you guys had dinner yet?"
They nodded "Can either of you cook?"
They both shook their heads. I laughed, shaking my own. "Then I guess I have to make my own dinner. Both of you, stay in here and watch tv. All you'll do is get in my way."
They nodded and turned the tv on. I went into the kitchen and looked through the cabinets. Shote didn't have very much, but he had enough to make soup. I turned on the radio to a country music station. Tying on an apron, I heard the host announce "And now Taylor Swift with her song Superman."
I smiled and hummed along. Before I knew it, I was singing along while throwing vegetables into the pot.
"He's complicated, he's irrational…"
I twirled and saw Cole standing in the doorway. Blushing, I laughed. "I like to sing while I cook."
He nodded. "I can tell."
He sounded serious, but looking into his eyes I saw a glint humor. Very sly. I grabbed his hand and pulled him into the kitchen. "Can you dance?"
He shook his head. I smiled. "Good. Neither can I."
So we danced until the timer went off. We were both failing epicly, but it was the most fun I've had in a long time. By the time I had finished eating, I was yawning. I guess Cole had noticed, because he pointed to a room.
"You can sleep in my bed tonight." he said. I nodded.
Half asleep, I didn't notice that he was following me. Quickly, I swerved to face him.
"No way." I said, pointing my finger at him. "What kind of girl do you think I am?"
He laughed and turned around, acting defeated. I stumbled into the room and collapsed onto the bed, falling asleep in my clothes. Any hope of a good night's sleep was shattered.
I was plagued by nightmares all night. I woke up several times with sweat pouring down my face. I woke up one screaming. Cole came rushing in, wandering what was happening. I just sat on my bed, shaking.
He stood by my bed and asked it I wanted some music in. I nodded, pulling my knees up to rest my head on them. After turning on my iPod, Cole stood by my bed a while longer, then sat on the edge. Seeing that I didn't complain, he sat closer to me.
I desperately needed someone to comfort me, but I was. It about to say that out loud. Instead, I leaned on him. Getting my message, Cole placed his arms around me in an awkward embrace. I didn't even know when I started crying. I just remember waking up the next morning, my head on Cole's chest. Slightly embarrassed, I got up and went to the kitchen to start breakfast.
