I took a small detour and walked around the shed drawing little frosts patterns on the wall. They were so fun! I almost giggled. It had been such a long time since I felt this happy. A long long time. I rounded the corner to get back to the others. I was about to announce my arrival when I saw Adelle being her annoying self and try to lunge at the Quinn girl. And then I saw that Lye kid.
He reached forward and grabbed her, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist and pulled her back. Immediately, I felt the blood rushed to my face and a small pang of jealousy lurched in my heart. My happiness leaked down the drain and I shrank back behind the wall a tad bit more upset. I turned around and drew more frost circles along the wall heading on the opposite direction.
Don’t think about him. Just don’t.
I was still drawing frost circles when I looked up and saw Lye standing there with his shirt off. And I froze. He was facing away from me and I could tell he probably just spent the day working. But it was too much. I accidentally tripped on a stick nearby and he turned around and saw me staring at him wide eyed and red.
“Oh, sorry” He said as he wiped sweat from from his brow.
I stared at him for a moment before I suddenly realized he was actually half naked and I quickly covered my eyes.
"Put your shirt on." I mumbled.
I heard him grab it off the fence and pull it on. "Yes, ma'am" He laughed.
My eyes were still covered. "It is on?"
I feel his hands gently pull mine away from my eyes. "Calm down, Avian. I wasn't flashing anything indecent"
"I-" I opened my mouth but nothing came out and my face flushed a little. I made a face instead and turned away. "You smell."
He chuckled. "Have you just been wandering around? I was worried you had run off again"
I stared at him defiantly and responded slightly more angrily that I would have liked. "I said you smell."
He frowned. "Um... okay, yeah. I did hear you"
"Ugh!" I walked a few steps away frustrated with myself. Why couldn’t I get straight to the point? "You- you-"
"What?" He stared at me completely confused.
"and Adelle" I responded lamely, my face reddening again.
"Oh" His cheeks turned a hint pink and coughed awkwardly. "We just... We just kissed"
"Kissed?" I raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Just kissed? You guys look like you're practically married!"
He turned a hint pinker.
"How long have you known each other? Married in a day?" A hint of tears start to well up in my eyes. I quickly tried to blink them away.
"A couple of days. Guess its just the... sudden change of being around people of your own kind" He said, staring at the floor. "Comfort I guess"
"You're a terrible person!" I suddenly screeched as tears streamed down my face. Who kisses people for comfor? I turned and stormed off.
"What? Avian! What's wrong?" He shouted, following after me.
"He's married. Forget it. There's no chance Avie. Just forget about." I muttered.
"Wait, Avian. What's wrong? Maybe I can help. I thought we were friends"
"Friends don't go around married two days after they meet someone." I retorted, turning back around and staring devilishly at at him.
"We aren't married" He flushed. "Look, I know its not like the most.... smartest thing in the world but.... I can't help what happened"
"And I can't help myself for getting mad." I replied, my voice filled with sarcasm
"You're... disappointed in me" He looked upset.
"I am disappointed. I am I-" I stopped unable to speak anymore and more tears gushed down my face. An image of Matt flashed through my mind and I sank down to the ground with a wave of guilt washing over me. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"Nothing. It's just... You remind me of someone." I tried to calm myself down a little.
He smiled at me sheepishly. "Seems like you cared about him alot" He gently wiped my tears away with his thumb.. "Come on. Lets go try and find some tea inside the house"
I gave a small sniffle and smiled a little. "Sounds like a plan."
