Bugs. Why did it have to be bugs?

Charlie Mason

I took a deep breath and stepped through the blue door, wandering what was in store for me. I hoped it was something athletic or brainy. I'd be good at those. Instead, it was something I never would have imagined.

Looking around the room, all I saw was a table. But on the table was every kind of creepy crawling thing you can think of, and then some. In the center if it all was a blender and a cup. I gagged, hoping I didn't have to eat them. What I really had to do was worse.

"Contestant," I heard the weird computerized voice from before say, "You may choose any five bugs to place into the blender. After all bugs are placed, you have exactly three minutes to blend and drink the concoction. If you spit it up or do not finish the cup in this amount of time, you will have to start again with new bugs. You get three chances. If you complete the challenge, you move ahead three places. If you fail the challenge, you go back five. The time starts as soon as you place the fifth bug into the blender. Start."

I slowly made my way to the table, dreading my challenge. I'm a very picky eater. This was not going to turn out very well.

Finally reaching the table, I gulped and mentally sorted trough all of the bugs. None of them looked appetizing. Picking five bugs at random, I threw them into the blender and heard the timer start. Blending them as fast as possible, I poured them into the cup with two minute to spare. Bracing myself, I guzzled it down big mistake. I turned and spewed it all over the floor behind me.

"You have two more tries to complete this challenge."

I nodded, shaking. Grabbing five new bugs, I threw them into the blender and once more heard the timer start. I nodded, shaking. Grabbing five new bugs, I threw them into the blender and once more heard the timer start. Blending a little better this time, I quickly poured it into the cup. I had about a minute and a half. I closed my eyes and drank it slowly, having to force the bug juice to stay down.

The timer went off just as I finished the shake. I set the cup down on the table, my hands shaking. I could feel myself turning pale and cool.

"Very good. You may choose a door."

I looked and saw five doors pop up, each one with a bug on it. Not finding it humerus at all, I choose a door at random. I didn't know what was inside the door at first because I was to busy puking my guts out.  better this time, I quickly poured it into the cup. I had about a minute and a half.
