James: A Good Day Gone Bad... Again

I looked around at my surroundings. I didn't remember coming here. I did remember getting up that night in a cold sweat and leaving the hut, but I don't remember anything else.

There was a pool of water at my feet, trees all around me, and some small pink flowers in bloom all around me. I crawled forward and looked at my reflection in the water.

My hair was longer and it was starting to curl at the ends. My face had a smuge of dirt... all over. My eyes looked more serious than ever before.

I rubbed the back of my head, wondering what time it was and if I was close to camp. I got up and walked towards the sound of the ocean. It took me several minutes to get to the first row of trees. As I broke the forest, I looked left, then right. I couldn't see camp, but I could see a ledge. I didn't even know that this place had a cliff. Well, you learn something new every day.

Like an idiot, I walked towards the ledge and looked over the edge. Long drop to the bottom, maybe forty of fifty feet. I swallowed.

I tried to back away, but I slipped on a rock that I hadn't seen. My ankle twisted to the side. I fell.

I felt the ledge of the cliff scrape across my back. I was airbourne for a second when I felt the ground. The impact sent all of the air out of my lungs. I was on a ledge. The full drop was too long for me to stay alive. I opened my eyes and tried to look up. I was only twenty feet down. I was sure my arm was broken and my ankle was at least sprained. My back was bleeding badly. An hour and I'd be dead.

I closed my eyes, trying to block out the pain from my leg and back. I wondered how far I had traveled from camp. Would the others find me in time? If they did and got me back in time, Sarah would have some company, I guess.

"James!" I heard a single cry from what seemed like far away. I waited, just in case I had imagined it.

"James!" I heard it again.

"Over here!" I shouted. I rolled over onto my stomach.

I heard the sound of running feet. I looked up. "Down here," I said loudly.

Then I saw three faces poke over the ledge. It was Bree, Nessie and Cassidy.

"Oh my God!" Nessie slapped a hand over her mouth.

The End
