After listening to the story, we sat silent. I smacked my lips before responding.
"Are we going?"
"Do you want to?"
"You're in charge when mom's not here......."
"I know. I saw her assassined."
"I don't know what we're going to do." Kat's ears and tail twitched nervously.
"I think we could be useful. All the normal people who aren't partially an animal can eat the normal food while we eat hunted food." I winked. "And I can listen and fly really silent. You know the lay of the land and the forest better than them anyways. But then again, there's huge risk. We could be separated again........"
"True. But we're both stronger now. We'll stay together." Kat turned to the others in the room while grasping my hand. "We'll go. Our one policy is that we go on all the missions we're sent on together."
"Alright then. I'll go set up another room for you." Crystal stood to go, but we stopped her.
"Don't bother. Siv would end up on the floor anyways and I'd end up in front of the fire. Do you mind if we just stay in here?" Kat smiled cattishly.
"Sure whatever. Can you make your own beds?"
In response, Kat turned to me. "Do you mind going and fetching my mat?"
"Not at all. I like flying at night anyways. I'll do the barn owl screech if I'm attacked." I smiled and climbed to the windowsill then launched myself into the night breeze. The trip was uneventful and soon I was back at Crystal's. "I'm back!" Everyone jumped except Kat, who was used to it.
"We didn't hear you coming!" Selene exclaimed.
"Yup! That's because of her wings. She has owl's wings so she's a silent flyer." I grinned cheekily.
"Here's your mat Kat! Should we go to bed?" I tilted my head slightly.
"Sure. Go ahead and make your bed while I talk with these three." Their voices faded into the background while I messed with some blankets, a few twigs, some moss, and molted feathers from my own wings in past seasons. After a few minutes, the nest was finished. Yawning, I crawled in and fell asleep (I'm more human than owl, but I still like night flying).
