I walked through the front door, and tossed my gun onto the table, while simultaneously, picking up the remote for the TV. I turned on the TV as I began to slouch into the couch.
Then the headline popped up, "President's daughter, kidnapped."
In almost the same motion, I slowly got up from the couch, groaning as I did so. I walked over to the table and picked up my gun and holstered it. I started out the door.
No surprise. I thought as I got in my car, How stupid am I? Planning to relax at home? Man, I'm ready to retire already.
When I arrived at HQ, things got crazy.
For one, almost the whole team had arrived. Well, everyone except Dani, but Foster assured us she was on her way. Though, he wouldn't start the briefing without her, which was strange, but we didn't argue.
While I waited, I paced back and forth in the hallway.
"Hey Jagan." I heard a familiar voice call.
I turned to see Bethany, looking as beautiful as ever, "Hey Beth, what's up?"
"Well, I was just wondering what you were going to ask me?" she said, obviously restraining herself from winking.
I almost blushed, but got control of myself, Shoot! What do I say, what do I say? I took a silent breath, "Look-"
"Hey Bethany I need to-" Scarecrow said, coming around the corner. He stopped in his tracks as he saw us. Though I'm not sure if that was because he understood, or because Bethany was giving him "the glare of death".
"Nevermind." he said slowly and hesitantly, retracing his steps backwards around the corner.
Bethany and I returned to our previous positions, "Look Bethany, the truth is, I was going to..." my voice stopped, but my mouth kept moving. Bethany raised an eyebrow. I took a deep breath, "Bethany, I am..." my voice stopped once again, What's wrong with me?!
"Are you trying to ask me out?" Bethany asked, obviously just trying to be helpful.
"Yes." I finally spewed.
"Well, as long as you promise not to do that again." Bethany joked, punching my shoulder lightly.
"Okay, deal. As long as you promise not to gawk at me constantly."
"Gawk?" Bethany asked, not understanding.
"Don't pretend you don't know what that means." I laughed.
"No I don't." she said.
"I can see when you stare at me."
"I DO NOT STARE AT YOU!" she said, slightly offended.
"No it's not a bad thing!" I said, thinking quickly. Realizing what I had said, I immediately tried to correct myself, "What I mean is-"
"Jagan, shut up." Bethany said.
"I'd love to."
"You'd love to what?" I asked.
Bethany rolled her eyes, but smiled.
I immediately understood, "OH!"
We laughed in unison.
Suddenly, I felt arms swing around me and pull me. They were Bethany's. And instantly my lips made contact with hers. I sat there for a second, not completely understanding what was happening. When we broke apart, I just stared at her.
Wow... I thought.
Bethany blushed, then spun on her heel and ran away.
"Wait, Bethany!" I yelled.
She didn't respond.
Great! Just great, now she thinks I hate her. I thought to myself, punching the wall, I am such a retard!!
