The room was painted lilac but with the curtains drawn it looked dark purple. The oak shelf looked black. The shelves were packed with teddy bears, but their fur looked bristly and their glass eyes seemed hard and cruel. The eyes of the china dolls appeared to follow anyone who walked into the room, their stiff porcelain bodies seemed to be trying to escape the cabinets by sheer will-power.
The fluffy rug looked like the pelt of a dead animal, the tight white sheets on the bed didn't look as if they'd been cuddled into by a child. They were clinical-seeming, cold, like a hotel bed.
On the dressing table sat three jars; one of bath-fizzers; one of sweets...
And one of blood.
