Everyone hates the sound of nails on a chalkboard. At the mention of it, people's teeth are set on edge. But even that detestable sound cannot compare to the ones that come out of his daughter's mouth when he tells her. Horrible wails. Curses. Anger. Screaming so loud it wakes her mother. Her father explains to her what has happened. Both sit on the bed and whisper reassuring words to her. But she cannot hear them. It is too late. Her heart has been torn to pieces and cast aside.
