“Should we follow them into the van?” Flossie asked, Si and A had been taken by the young officer into the van. I watched as they climbed in and began to talk; it didn’t look like they wanted us there.
“We’ll let Silas handle it,” I mumbled, “he’s good like that,”
“Well what should we do?” she asked, I didn’t reply as I saw Angel saunter out the restaurant smiling happily. I gritted my teeth together and narrowed my eyes, that girl was seriously messed up, “Harry…why are you shaking?” Floss asked, I noticed my hands were balled into fists and they were shaking with the tension. I relaxed,
“That girl,” I spoke through my teeth, she was far enough away not to have heard but she took one last look towards the van and laughed to herself. That was enough; I pulled my hood up and made my way towards her,
“Harry?!” Flossie hissed,
“Stay there,” I commanded, “don’t follow me,” she obey, probably from the tone of my voice, I followed Angel along the street-lit road, she was almost skipping with happiness, I didn’t understand why she had accused Silas of abuse or harassment. I stood my ground until Angel turned into an alley way which hadn’t any street lights, I made sure my hood covered up most of my face and made my move. I grabbed the back of Angel’s collar and dragged her towards the wall where I pushed her up against it; her face was pushed against the cold brick wall.
“Oh God,” I heard her mumble, “I don’t have any money on me, you can check my pockets, all you’ll find is a phone,” she cried,
“I don’t want your money,” I made sure my face stayed out of view and I kept my voice gruff,
“I’m stronger than I look,” she growled,
“I highly doubt that,”
“Just…you…wait…” she began to struggle, but I held her fast, “What do you want?” she asked angrily with a little hysteria in her voice.
“Sexual harassment isn’t a joke,” I warned her, “it does happen, and has very serious implications,”
“You’re not going to rape me are you?” she asked terror in her voice,
“No,” I said calmly, “you’re not worth it,” I grabbed her collar again and pushed her to the floor, “don’t come looking for trouble, because one day, it’ll hit you in the face,” I said darkly before walking off, once I’d rounded the alley I legged it back to the van. Flossie was sitting by its wheel, she gave me the ‘where-have-you-been?’ look, and I replied with the ‘I’ll-tell-you-later’ face. We tried to listen into the conversation; Flossie sighed and stood up,
“We’ve got to help Silas out!” she burst,
“Shush!” I said, but it was too late, Aimee opened the window and told us to come into the van. We climbed up the stairs,
“I can promise you with my life that Silas would never harass anyone,” Flossie said as soon as she sat down, “so don’t listen to that Angel girl, she’s lying,”
“I’m not here to sort out whatever issue you had in the restaurant,” the officer said sternly, Flo gulped,
“Why are you here? We’ve all got driver’s licences and permission from our parents,” she smiled trying to ease the tension, Si gently put his hand on her knee and she was quiet.
“So what should we do?” A asked,
“I’m going to do my job and take a nap,” she informed us, “I’ll be here in the morning and we’ll talk again then, in the meantime I suggest we move away from this restaurant and find a safe, legal place to park for the night,”
“Okay, thank you for your help,” Si shook her hand and she smiled back at him,
“Pleased to help,” she left the van and got into her police car; Silas silently got into the driver’s seat and started the engine.
“Who’s going to explain and when?” I asked,
“I will and now,” A said coming to sit next to me, she began to talk about the death we’d witnessed and how the police were trying to cover it up. Two minutes later A’s voice became slower and slower,
“And Lou…she is…” A’s head lulled onto my arm and she didn’t move, Floss giggled,
“It’s what happens when you drive all day and night,” I smiled, Floss got up and went to find the rest of the story out from Si. The curtains dividing the front and back were closed and we were left alone, I watched A’s sweet sleeping face and had a strange urge to put my arms around her. She looked beautiful when she slept and all her muscles relaxed, you could see her high cheekbones and long eyelashes. I let my head bow above hers and I inhaled the smell of fruity shampoo, without really thinking what I was doing my lips pressed against her forehead and I hovered there for a moment, her eyes fluttered and I pulled back.
“Did you just kiss my head?” she asked astonished,
“No,” I muttered,
“I felt something!” she told me,
“You had a… bug on your face; I got it off for you,”
“With your lips? What? Did you like suck it off?” she smiled,
“I didn’t kiss you…alright?” I said defensively, I didn’t know why I didn’t want to admit I had kissed her,
“Alright!” she said her hands held up, “calm down,” she smiled. I got off the seat and went to the opposite one,
“I think you’re hallucinating, got back to sleep,” she stuck her tongue out at me but did what I said, I was now a good enough distance away and so I didn’t have the urge to do anything. It was strange, I had never felt this…feeling before, it was like I wanted to hold her in my arms and keep her safe. I wanted to kiss her, call her my own. ‘Was I crushing on A?’ I thought to myself, if I was, I had better not let the others know.
