I lie on my back in the grass with Rephy in my arms. We hadn't spoken a word to each other since I kissed her, and Orphian interrupted. Now we just lie here and look up at the beautiful blue skies.
Rephy murmurs something I don't quite catch. "Hmm?" I turn my head to look at her and see she looks a little frightened. I tighten my grip on her, pulling her closer. "A storm is coming." she repeats and my stomach fills with dread. Yes a storm is coming. I can see it in the number sequences that are still playing in my head like a merry-go-round. Death, pain....and nothing.
I stand up suddenly, scooping her up in my arms. I've decided what I'll do. I can't let anything happen to her. I...I think I really do love her. I can't be sure, I've never felt this way before, I don't know what it is.
Rephy seems surprised but looking at my face she doesn't ask any questions, just snuggles into me as I walk across the grass towards the partially ruined building that is the unit. Getting to the main door I gently put her down and then run my hands over the wall beside the door. I don't even know what I'm looking for but at the same time I've known all along. I feel it then and punch the wall, making a small hole in the plaster. Rephy is looking at me in shock but I don't have time to explain to her what I'm doing.
I reach in and pull out some of the wires that are run through the walls...they're part of the unit's security system.
Taking the controller out of my pocket once again, I use my powers to link it into the wires I've just ripped out of the wall. My knuckles are bleeding but I don't pay any attention to them at the moment. The wires slot into the controller easily and I connect my mind to it to check it's doing what I want it to do.
"Yes!" I cry out. "We're on the main system wave."
The machine sends flashes of security images to me and I shudder as I realise all that's been happening outside the unit. I give the system a few tasks to do and attempt to hack into the main security around the files and cctv cell footage relating to 'Patient X' in Ian's base. Leaving the machine to scroll through access codes I detatch my mind from the system and stumble over to Rephy.
"Come with me." I grab her hand and drag her to where everyone else is, all of them working in some weird kind of group of tents. I don't ask questions I just grab Aysh by the shoulder and gasp "I need you to make me a TV screen, the size of that wall over there, and I need three different leads." Aysh nods and suddenly everything I need is right there in front of me.
"I'm going to get something from the kitchen," Rephy calls as she walks out. "I'll be right back." I smile at her as she disappears out the door and then I turn back to what I'm working on.
I begin to assemble things the way I need them when something makes me check up with the main system. Linking my mind up with it again I sense danger and then suddenly I see it. Extreme power shortage in the south area of the unit. I concentrate on the source and see it..
External biological powersource in kitchen area
Before I know it I've broken the connection and I'm sprinting out the door and down the corridor only one thought in my mind.
