Wow. Now there was two more guys, Feleck and Morph. I liked his power, but I saw how that could inconvienience any feeling of security that the inhabitants of the Unit had managed to accumulate. I saw him morph to look like some of us, and that freaked me out.
But bedsides that, I felt rather alone. I went upstairs to read more. Not black holes, not M-theory or quantum mechanics. I curled up on my bed with a historical fiction novel. I engrossed myself into the life of a Patriot in the American Revolution. It felt good to let go of all the cares and worries that had plauged me since I got here.
But I heard a knock on the door. I stopped time to go and open the door. Brandon stood there, frozen in time. I restarted time, and he walked in. I leaned towards him to give him a kiss.
"I love you." I said.
"I love you too."
"Why are you here?"
"I want to talk to you. Jade, what do you think will happen to us? Meita's gone, at least for a while, and so many new people are funneling in. I don't see any end to just sitting around and waiting for Ian or Renon to appear so we can try to kill them. I just don't see."
"If we ever get out of here alive, we'll be together. We could do good for the world. We could help people, and we would have all of our new friends. Does that satasfy you?"
"For the moment. But, Jade, really I'm not sure how much longer we have to get out before Ian gets us. I just want you and me to be together having as much of a normal life as we could. And that's not here."
"We'll get out, Brandon. I know."
