The nurse whirled away and stomped out the door, her face stormy. As soon as she was out of sight, Sarah stopped crying and winked at Andrea. Andrea grinned. Sarah always had been a good actor.
"Come on," Andrea whispered as she helped Sarah out of bed. She frowned as she looked at Sarah in her hospital gown. "Erm, boys, would you mind stepping out for a minute?"
Evan's face turned red. "Um, right. Of course." He and Finn quickly left the room.
Andrea grabbed Sarah's stuff out of the paper bag and handed them to her. "What I do about clothes?" Sarah asked, tugging at the IV in her arm.
"Ummm..." Andrea frowned. Then she grinned, her face lighting up. "Be right back. Don't move!"
Andrea darted out the door and in minutes was back with a doctor's lab coat. "Don't ask," she muttered to Sarah.
"Oh well," Sarah murmured. "It's better than this drafty hospital gown."
"Evan showed me a way out," Andrea whispered. She peeked out the door, looking for the nurse. She was nowhere in sight.
"Hang on," Sarah muttered, and grasped the IV tube in her arm. She pulled it out, peeling up the strips of tape that had held it to her arm.
"Oh, Sarah!" Andrea groaned, but couldn't help laughing. Sarah grinned.
"Oh, wait!" Andrea said suddenly, remembering. "I bet there's someone who wants to say good-bye."
Evan and Finn came back through the door, Evan looking very carefully at the floor. "Well, I guess this is goodbye, then. Good luck."
"Bye," Sarah said. "Thanks you so much...both of you, for everything.
Evan and Finn nodded.
Sarah turned to Andrea. "Well, let's go then."
Andrea quickly led Sarah down the hall and to the exit. "Be careful," she whispered. Sarah's face crumpled. The two friends embraced. "Bye," Sarah whispered, and walked out the door.
