In the darkness of her mind Sarah felt herself being moved. Maybe someone was helping her at last. All her life she’d lived in a small country town. A town where people helped each other out. Then she’d come to this city. This big, ugly city.
Nothing here had been helpful. In fact she’d hadn’t been here for very long when the mugging had occurred. If you could call the vial deed a mugging. Now she was paying for their sins. Her own life seemed to be slipping away.
If she made it through this she was going home. After she thanked who ever it was who was helping her. What did he say his name was? God, her mind was losing clarity.
As the darkness blackened, Sarah had one last thought. ‘I have to make it home and see Jay.’
