Everyone had returned in varying states of health. An roughed-up but otherwise fine Vixen brought in a limping Hunter in her arms. Shift was grinning at everyones apparent injuries as he was spotless, though he had a sad look in his eyes and carried an unconcious Bree who had a large bruise on her head. Matt came in full of scratches and bruises.
"Where's Rob?" he questioned.
"Rob took the city back were it belonged with his brother or somebody... they haven't returned," I explained.
"Damn it, I bet Emport tricked him," his face reddened in anger and he kicked a wall. Suddenly he looked up at the building in disgust, "and what the hell was Shade thinking?" he dropped his gaze and sighed, he was tired and beaten. Suddenly his face was a mask of grief.
"I'm sorry Vixen, I never said that did I?" she looked at him, there was little emotion there apart from pity and tiredness, "I should say it now whilst you're here, whilst you're alive..."
"I think you owe us all an apology Matt, the way you left things," she said.
He rubbed his face with his hands, "I know," he replied simply, "I'm sorry."
There was silence for a moment.
"Well that was akward, I assume there's some reason behind this, not that I understand," Shift blundered on, his usual charismatic self, "So I suppose we'd better get home-" he stopped suddenly, as if a thought had crossed his mind.
"S'up?" I asked, but he didn't reply. I didn't like this look, I'd seen it after he had killed Omi. A sort of contemplation and reflection. We walked back to the Hummer. First I drove us to Las Vegas Airport were Matt, accompanied by a laptop had decided to fly ahead. He didn't spare much of a goodbye, giving me a one-armed hug and nodding to the others. Shift also decided to stay and left the airport on his own.
So it was just Vixen, Hunter and I on the drive back. Though I had to make one stop along the way. I had to pick up an old friend.
