regret is such a horrible
thing. it works like a
firework and it can set
off millions of flames in
the blink of an eye.

it sits in your mouth, all
stodgy and bitter. it
lingers on the skin of your
teeth, remains in the
crevices of your tongue.

the most melancholic
and perhaps devastating
thought about regret is
that it's in the past.
and you can't change that.

you can't go back in time
and not say that thing that
you said because she said
you wasn't meant to but
you did. now it's a mess.

no matter how hard you
wish and cry and pray
or whatever you do to
bring yourself some hope
on this damned planet

you can't get rid of regret.

The End
