"So, whats wrong with you guys?" Jack said, practically bouncing around the room, laying a cool hand on first my forehead, then Dia's. She and I were now on opposite sides of the bed, after that.. odd moment.. What had almost happened between us?
"We just feel really off, y'know?" Dia said. "My tummy hurts, and my head feels funny. What about you, Ace?"
"Well.... Same. My tummy feels like its tying itself into a zillion knots every few seconds, and my head feels all light and airy..." I trailed off, scared I might have said too much. A knowing smile came over Jack's face.
"Oh you two are definitely sick.. Veeeery sick!" He giggled, and twirled out, closing the door behind him. Once he was gone, I let out a little sigh of relief. It felt nice, just the two of us, alone, in the privacy of our room.
I felt as though I could stay there forever.. I turned onto my side, facing Dia, only to find that she was already staring at me.
"Ace... What nearly happened, just then?" She asked in a small voice.
"Huh? What d'you mean?" I asked, pretending not to know, when really I knew straight away.
"You know.. When... When our foreheads touched. It.. It was weird." She mumbled.
"Actually... It felt kinda... Nice, if you ask me. Better than just lying here with my tummy all in a twist." I said with a small smile. Slowly, we edged toward each other, our gazes locked, until our foreheads were almost touching again. But I chickened out at the last second. I moved back. "Oh no it doesn't.. You're right, it is weird!"
I expected her expression to be relieved, but instead it was an odd mixture of confusion and sadness. I turned onto my back, and stared at the ceiling, utterly confused.
I really needed to figure out what was going on....
