The needle on the dashboard swept silently past a hundred miles per hour and kept going. Meanwhile the engine roared loudly in sync with the acceleration and I turned up the radio to drown it out. Speeding wasn't something I normally did, but my troubled mind distracted me from the outside world that was now speeding past me in unrecognizable mixtures of color.
"I should have seen this coming," I thought, "how could I have walked into this without expecting consequences?"
I shoved these thoughts away and focused on the most recent event, "Am I too late?"
I tapped the screen of my phone and checked the time, 6:20. I had ten minutes until the plane left and If I wasn't on it, it could mean disaster, not only for me, but for the world as well.
Only I knew what was coming and I had to stop it before it changed the lives of millions. Before today I had no clue that I would be the savior of an entire planet, and I let myself slip into highway hypnosis for several minutes, which seemed like hours, ignoring it all.
Before I snapped back to reality, I missed the exit.
