Night Terrors
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I struggled against my invisible binds. They were like chains, tightly placed over my abdomen to keep me rooted to the ground. My arms were stretched high above my head. My hands and feet were tightly bound together. There was no escape.
I was chained firmly in place on a cold, damp concrete floor. Everything was black but to the right of me was a small glow of light. I craned my neck to see it. The light grew brighter and it illuminated a figure of a woman standing with her arms outstretched towards me. As the light increased I saw more details. The woman was wearing a flowing white dress that draped her slender body, and soon I recognized the delicate features of her face. Her lips were curled up in a small smile. She looked upward facing the source of the light as if she was basking in warm rays of sun. Her eyes were closed but I knew the bright green color that her irises held. They were just like mine. The woman was my mother.
I thrashed against the chains as I tried to go towards her, but my attempts were futile. I tried to yell for her but my voice was nonexistent. Another figure emerged out of the darkness, slowly stalking towards my mother from behind. I didn’t have to see his face. I knew who it was. As he walked closer the light illuminated his sharp, ugly face. He looked back at me with an evil smirk on his face. His dark eyes were mocking me. I screamed and fought against my binds furiously. I tried to yell for my mother to run, but my voice came out as a mere whisper. It was too late. He had reached her. Without warning, he roughly grabbed my mother’s shoulder. Her eyes opened and met mine in panic. “No!” I screamed as I woke up. My hands were clenching my bed sheets so tightly that I could hear the fabric ripping from the strain.
