"What?" The other lady asked.
I couldn't remember her name right away. Then, it came to me. Willow. Then, I remembered every word that she had said to me in the last few minutes. I knew I had a good memory, but I don't remember ever being able to remember things that well.
What she said about the meteor ... it completely made sense with the images flashing through my head. The ash. The screaming people.
My wife and son were away from home, shopping. Then, I remembered the conversation with my wife very clearly. She needed some more milk and eggs. I was busy with one of our home made crafts, so she said that she would take Addison with her. I shoved the memory back down. I didn't have time to think about it.
"What is it?" Willow asked again. "And, who is Addison?"
"I smell something," I replied, ignoring her question about Addison. Then, it hit me. "How do you know Addison?"
"Bacon!" Xannya exclaimed.
"What?" Willow and I said at the same time.
"I smell bacon!" Xannya said it again. "I smell bacon. I smell ash and a bunch of other nasty things, but I definitely smell bacon."
She pointed toward the far end of the street where there was a factory or, the more I thought about it, where there use to be an old factory.
"That way!" she declared as she began to head in that direction.
"Wait!" Willow walked after her. She looked back at me with a I-don't-know-what-is-going-on expression. She looked back at Xannya who was still walking away.
"Can you walk?" she asked, looking back at me.
"Yeah, I think so," I replied. We started walking in the direction of the old factory where there must have been bacon.
How do you know Addison? The thought went through my head quite clearly. Willow looked back at me and said, "I'll tell you later."
