A Thousand MilesMature

I couldn't believe it. Will is literally making my dream come true. The moment I got up on that stage, my confidence dimmed a little when I saw the different faces looking up at me, waiting for me to say something into the microphone. This is the first performance I'm going to make in my life, as a solo song. I certainly didn't want to get stage fright now.

My eyes flickered to Will's face and whatever confidence I'd lost was gained the moment she smiled at me. Grinning back at her, I cleared my throat and said in a firm voice, "Good evening everyone! How are you all doing?"

Mumbles of "great", "good", and other common phrases shot back at me.

"Well, tonight I'll be singing A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton. I hope you all enjoy it."

Within a few seconds, the piano from behind me started playing and I smiled at Will's friend who was the one playing it. He grinned back and as the right bar was played, I opened my mouth and my voice sounded crystal clear as I sang. My eyes were mainly focused on the audience, occasionally drifting to other people's faces but lingering at Will's.

As the song went on, I saw her smile getting wider and wider. She was enjoying my performance and I felt rather happy when the audience swayed to my song in their boats, resting on the shoulders of their lovers; a peaceful look upon their faces.

When I finished, everyone clapped loudly and I smiled at them beaming. "Thank you!"

Will's friend came up to me and gave me a pat on the back. "You sang really good. You should join my band if you can."

I got back on the boat and Will took hold of my hand as I sat down next to her, lightly tracing circles across my palm.

"So, what did you think?"

"You were beautiful up there. In more ways that one."

The blush rose up my cheeks and Will grinned, leaning in and lightly brushing her lips across mine. I wrapped my arms around her neck and kissed her back. For a first date and first love...this wasnt bad at all.

The End
