The pparty had already started by the time Alice and I got there. I spotted Alex across the room but pretended I hadn't. Alice and I were on the dance floor for the first half an hour, and it was only when we went to get a drink that I was able to talk to Alex. She was stood with her back to us next to the drinks stand, so I slipped over and threw my arm round her shoulder. She jumped and spilled her drink down her top.

"Oh damn! Sorry Alex!" I said, grabbing a napkin and trying to clean her off.

"No, don't worry, I'll go and change."

"I'm so sorry! I didn't realise you were holding the drink, I just thought I'd surprise you..." She smiled weakly.

"Don't worry. I have another dress." She headed through the crowd to the exit. Alice slipped her hand in to mine.

"Don't worry about her. Come and dance."

"I feel really bad. She loves her dresses. I think I'd better go and see if she's ok."

"No Will. Don't go."

"You could come too you know."

"I don't want to."

"Then stay here." I snapped. Alice had been whining ever since she'd arrived and it was starting to get on my nerves.

"Fine. Go and be with your new best friend."

"Fine." I stormed out and headed over the empty campus to our room. I ran up the stairs of our building and stuffed my key in the lock, opening the door and going in. There was a small gasp and I saw Alex, stood in her underwear, by her wardrobe. "Oh, sorry Alex." I turned my eyes away. "I just came to see if you were ok."

"It's- it's no problem. I thought you'd stay with Alice." I could here her rustling through the wardrobe.

"No, we're having a bit of an argument."

"About what?"

"You." I glanced round and saw she was staring at me, blushing, with one arm in the wardrobe still searching for a dress. "We're arguing about you."

"I'm sorry. Why are you arguing about me? What have I done?"

"You're my room mate. That's why. She's a little jealous." I hadn't turned back round yet, and I let my eyes drift slightly but yanked them back up to her face. She was blushing bright red now. "She says it's the way you look at me." Her head snapped round to stare in to the wardrobe again. She began searching furiously. I sighed and went across the room to stand beside her and look through her wardrobe. "Which dress are you looking for?"

"The-the pink one." Our hands touched as we reached for the same hanger and I felt a warm tingling shock run through my body. She leapt back as though she'd been scolded. Oh god, maybe she felt it too. I passed her the hanger carefully so that she wouldn't touch my skin again and turned around whilst she dressed. "I'm ready."

I turned to see her dressed in the dress. She looked beautiful.

"Come on, let's go." I opened the door and left, hearing her following me. I frantically thought of what I was supposed to do. I didn't know whether this was an attraction that would pass, or whether I was falling in love with this girl. I fiddled with the necklace she'd got me whilst I waited for the elevator. The doors pinged open and we got in. Should I be silent? Should I talk to her normally? How was I going to last the journey? The doors closed.

"Alex..." I turned to face her and saw her looking at me, her face inches away from mine. And somehow I felt drawn to her face. For some reason I reached down and kissed her lips, feeling an explosion of electricity run through my veins and make the heat in my cheeks rise. And then I pulled away sharply, staring as she opened her eyes and sighed. "God I am so sorry... I don't know what came over me..." Then I was shocked as she wrapped her arms around my waist and leaned up to kiss me back.

The elevator doors opened.

The End
