The procession was quiet. The soldiers were nervous, Destrian could see that, as he looked around at them. Even though it was eight on one, Destrian knew his fighting skills. He could take on the eight of them, armed with swords and spears, with nothing but his knife. No wonder they were nervous.

But Destrian sat quietly for now. He was getting what he wanted. He was getting out of the kingdom, where everyone knew he was the "Prince's Dark Side" He wanted to have his own life. Jaden was keeping quiet. When Destrian checked, he was still there, in the back of his mind, homesick and frightened. The prince had never left the palace walls, he'd never been so far from home before, particularly without the prospect of going back home. Destrian couldnt feel the same way though, he was excited, he'd wanted this for as long as he could remember.

They reached the border by lunchtime, at which point the soldiers promptly turned around. The captain of the guard hesitated only long enough to drop a bag on the ground. Destrian opened it after the solders were beyond the range of his knives. Inside was some dried food, a map, a tinderbox, a thick cloak and some money. Inside a special pocket sewn into the lining of the bag was a large hunting knife. Destrian grinned as he saw the knife, it was larger than his more decorative blade, but still well balanced and sharp. He strapped its sheath to his belt and tied the cloak around his shoulders, pulling the hood up to cast his face in shadow

"You're a proper outlaw now." He said to himself.

You've gotten us both killed. Jaden suddenly spoke up.

"Oh, calm down, I can handle this."

You dont know that, you have the same amount of experience I do with the outside world. None!

"Trust me, I know what I'm doing. I've actually done weapons training."

I want to go home. It was safe there.

"Come on, where's your sense of adventure. We're never gonna meet our true love if you stay in the castle forever."

Where are we going to find our true love in this place? The path stretched forever in both directions.

"I'm guessing, down this path." Destrian said confidently, with only the slightest hint of sarcasm. He started forward on foot, leaving his horse behind. Jaden, now curious, stayed active, but quiet, looking through the prince's eyes at all the new sights.

The End
