My first name is Rain and my surname is Storm.
I used to say that my parents didn't think before naming me that, but then, Rain Storm is a suitable name for me I suppose, considering the fact that I can control the weather...and the element of earth.
I have eyes that change from green to a strange orangey-yellow, something that my powers seem to do to me. My skin is a sort of light tan colour but it's my hair that get's people's attention. My hair is pure white and waist length and it's never grown any other colour. I must mention here that I am quite small, only about 5ft 5 or 6.
My parents were killed in a car accident when I was four years old and since then I've been shifted around from home to home until one day a rich uncle I never knew I had, arrived out of the blue and adopted me. He decided to send me to a private school to keep up with appearances, you see, he was different.
I was 14 when Peter took me in. Now I'm just 3 weeks off my 17th birthday. In the past two and a half years, Peter has taught me many things, about people I never even knew existed, and would never be allowed to speak of to anyone else. He also told me part of who my parent's really were. And then my name began to make sense.
Peter told me that to be in any way normal, I had to go to school, and try to blend in This was not our realm, there were rules, and we had to abide by them.
The kids in the private school looked down on me because I had lived in foster homes and they used to bully me. But Peter said hold your head up high and don't let them get to you, you're better then they are, just stick it out for another few years and you'll be fine.
It was easier said then done. The girls would start by pushing me against the walls in the corridors and knocking my books out of my hands, then it would progress as the day went on to being verbally abused and then physically. The other day I had decided that enough was enough and as one of the girls grabbed me by the throat and pinned me to the wall I felt my body fill up with rage and thunder rolled across the sky.
"Oh look it's going to rain on poor little Rain!" she sneered and then suddenly her face paled and she looked down at the vines that had begun to wrap themselves around her feet. "What's going on?" she let go of me and suddenly the storm clouds began to fade and the vines shrank back to nothing. She looked at me in terror. "What are you?"
I've been asking myself that same question every day for the past two and a half years.
It's taken me less then two days to get control of my power, for the most part anyway, and I convinced Peter to send me to another school, a boarding school. He looked at me and said "It's happened hasn't it?" and I became nervous. "Yes." I avoided his gaze and he nodded to himself. "Boarding school? It's not far from here, if you need me, you know where to find me Rain." and with that he picked up the phone and made a call to the school. He did not hesitate to agree for even a moment. After he bought my books, uniform and everything else I needed, away I went.
This school seems to be a nice place anyway.
I walked through the doors and looked around for the office. It was at that moment that a boy with sort of red-brown hair fell into me and knocked me flat on my backside before landing on me. I was too shocked to move and he scrambled to his feet a little unsteadily, apologies pouring forth. His voice had a strange tone to it and as he pulled me to my feet I noticed the way he moved, it could be described as a strange sort of awkward grace. He looked at me nervously and I realised that I hadn't spoken a word.
"Don't worry about it." I smiled and he seemed to relax a little bit as he searched my eyes. I found myself praying that they didn't change colour at that moment. "I just, lost my balance and.." he seemed embarrassed about losing his balance. "It's fine really." I put my hand on his arm in a comforting gesture and suddenly the smell and sense of earth and freedom flashed through me and I gasped.
"I'm new here, could you show me the where the office is please?" I took my hand off his arm quickly and wondered if he'd noticed.
"Me?" he looked surprised that I had asked him and I looked around.
"Well I don't see anyone else around that I could be talking to." I grinned cheekily. "I don't know where the office is to be honest, I'm looking for it myself." he looked like he wanted to escape and I frowned. Was I really that bad?
"Do you want to come look for it with me?" he ventured and I smiled. Hopefully I'd made a friend. "Yes please!" I grinned up at him. "Oh I'm Rain by the way." I stuck out my hand without thinking and he looked at it before slowly taking it. Once again the sensations of earth passed through me only this time I was ready for it and I didn't flinch.
He let go but still didn't introduce himself.
"Em, so what's your name?" I tilted my head to the side and stared at him. He was starting to intrigue me.
