I keep it tucked snugly
between my teeth;
if you listen closely
you might hear it rattling,
wheezing on my every exhalation -
dispersing atom-sized traces
of it's existence
like dust taken up by the wind.

But I don't want to let it go;
I want to keep it to myself,
hidden, secret, quiet, safe;
a glimmer in the darkness
that settles over me every dusk
and clamps cold, bony fingers
around my throat, around my
heart - until they puncture flesh
and burrow deeper.

The End
