I thought about that for a moment. I tried not to answer too quickly. It's easy to say something that you'll regret later.
I looked down and planned out my answer. I looked up at him and gave a reply, "Working for the federal government means lying and cheating in court. Private investigating is much more honest. I feel like this job would be much more..." I paused.
Jacob raised an eyebrow and leaned forward.
I continued, "I feel like this job would be much more satisfying."
Jacob squinted slightly, leaning back into his chair. He was thinking. He didn't move a muscle for at least thirty seconds.
Finally, he stood up and said, "Well, it was a pleasure to meet you Mr. Houston."
I'll take that as a rejection. I thought, as I stood up and shook his hand.
"I'll get back to you."
I nodded. I turned around and walked out the door.
