Shaking my head, I put the key on the bedside cabinet with my wallet and lay down beside Hadley as he curls up. He cuddles up to me and I put an arm around him as he falls asleep.
I'm half asleep when Hadley starts mumbling stuff. For the record, I'm still lying with him, and he's still cuddled up against me - neither of us has moved. It starts off with stuff like "Maxxie... don't move, yer comfy... Pizza..."
But then he frowns a little, his brow creasing up, "Come back..... Don't leave......"
"Shhh," I whisper, playing with his hair gently. He moans and shuffles a bit. I stop playing with his hair, wondering if I should wake him up. Another frown creases his forehead.
"He doesn't love you..." he mumbles and I feel a frown of my own growing, wondering what he's talking about. Sure, it might be sleep talking, but sometimes, sleep talking is perfectly worth listening to.
"Who's that, Hads?" I ask softly. I know, I know; having a conversation with someone that's asleep might not be... normal. But hey, we're both traumatised, I think a bit of abnormality is allowed, right?
"Hey, shhh, I'm not going anywhere, gorgeous," I whisper.
He frowns again, "M'sorry."
"Don't be," I brush his hair back and kiss his forehead.
"I'll stop bein' a pansy..." I smile at that one slightly.
"You're not a pansy."
"I love you," I mumble, wondering what's going on in his head. He shivers, and I begin to think I'd rather not know.
"I can change."
"I can, I swear." I don't say anything, frowning and trying to figure out why he's saying he can change. "...I love you," he says, his tone getting kind of desperate. I bite my lip slightly, and kiss him softly on the lips.
"I love you too, Hads. Shhh."
"Please." Okay, Hadley, you've had a few hours of sleep, time you wake up now, you're beginning to worry me. I shake him gently, hoping he's not so asleep that I'll have to find a more drastic approach to waking him up. He frowns at me and I shake him a little harder, "Hadley."
He jumps and snaps awake, "Wha?" I blush and give him a sheepish look.
"Sorry... you were talking in your sleep, it was kinda freaking me out." He gives me a kind of worried look.
"What was I saying?"
"That you'll change and stop being a pansy - which you're not, by the way - something about John... you said ‘he doesn't love you' and then ‘John'," I tell him, giving him a questioning look. He bites his lip and I feel one of my eyebrows arch slightly.
"Nightmare," he says with a shrug and I sigh, blaming myself for about the millionth time. I lean in and kiss him again.
"I'm not going anywhere, for the record," I mutter quietly. He cuddles back up to me and shuts his eyes.
"I love you, too. You didn't seem to hear me when you were having your nightmare," I smile slightly and play with his hair.
