I picked up the phone as soon as Annie had left, wiping away the tears that came flowing down my cheeks.
"Helena? Hey. Look, I just told Annie about what we did, and she walked out on me."
"Oh god, I'm so sorry. Are you alright? You want me to come over?"
"I don't know. I just feel kind of numb."
"I'll be there in ten minutes." She hung up. I slumped in to the sofa.
The doorbell rang. Then the door opened to admit Helena, who rushed across to me and held me.
"I'm so sorry Rosalita. I'm so sorry. It's all my fault."
"No. No, it's not. It's mine. It's my nature. You were right." She kissed my forehead.
"Are you going to talk to her?"
"We're meeting tomorrow to talk."
"Oh. Do you want me to just stay for a while and then go?"
"No. Stay." I kissed her lips, and then let her just hold me on the sofa. She supported me to my bed when it got late, and I pulled her with me. She was there for me, holding me, kissing me and giving me the comfort I needed. But I knew it was my fault.
And it was going to be painful tomorrow.
