Cayden: QuestionsMature

Why did they want to know so much? I personally couldn’t fucking wait to forget it all. I’d pretty much blotted out the last few days. There was a lot of shouting, I’ll give you that much. Thankfully I came back on my own, though. I couldn’t have dealt with all the drama any longer. I guess that’s why I came home early...

I wasn’t sure Hadley had gone. I think he went out to get pizza or something, I don’t know. I just took it as my chance to question Maxxie.

"Never took you for the marrying type"

He shrugged.

"You don't talk about the wedding much, do you?"

"Should I?"

"When someone asks about your wedding plans, you kinda should"

"I don't really know as much about them as I probably should, to be honest."

"Why not?"

"Like I said, I left most of it to Hadley and your mum"

"And why's that. And don't say it's cause planning stresses you out"

"Well what else am I s'posed to say, when that's the reason?"

"And the reason you don't like talking about it...?"

"Who said I don't like talking about it? I just don't have much to say, do I?"

"You're getting all defensive, Max. Just proves my point"

"What point?"

"That you don't like talking about the wedding"

He lit a cigarette. "So?"

"So why don't you like talking about it?" I said, stealing his cigarette and putting it out.

He scowled.

"I'm waiting"

"Let me smoke, and I'll tell you"

"Fine" I sighed.

He lit up another and sighed. "It's really stupid, okay, so don't laugh"

"No laughing, I promise"

I could tell he wasn’t happy about it. "I'm scared, okay? I'm fucking terrified. There."

"Why are you scared?"

"You're joking right? You're talking to someone who has spent the last twelve years being a whore. It's not that I'm bad at commitment, it's just a huge change for me"

"Max, think how long you were with me. You didn't whore off with anyone and then you've got the four months you've been with Hadley. That's, what, almost a year? You're ready for this, man"

"Cay, I spent seven years with Alex and wasn't ready for it."

"You weren't ready for it because he wasn't a nineteen year old Californian"

He smiled a little.

"I know it's a big change for you but Max, answer me this; do you love the guy?"

"Of course. I wouldn't have proposed in the first place if I didn't. I just didn't think how much it would scare me the closer it got to it"

"Have you had second thoughts yet?"

"Only about the date"

"So why are you scared?” I asked, kind of exasperated.

"I don't know! That's why I said it was stupid"

I shot him a sympathetic look. “Just don’t hurt Hadley, okay?”

The End
