As I lay there cuddling with Maxxie a thought popped into my head; what if Maxxie wanted to move the date back for another reason? I mean, it’d be a bit hectic but me and Mom could get a wedding planned in three months easy. Maxxie didn’t even have to help out if he didn’t want to, he’d just have to make sure he had something to wear and a best man. So what if he wanted to move it because...
It was a little later and I’d slipped some boxers on when I said "Maxxie, can I ask you something?"
"Do you... What... Why do you wanna move the date back so much?" I asked a little quietly.
"Well you know what I'm like when I'm stressed. I'd love to get married at the end of March, but I don’t think you'll wanna hang around here if all I'm doing is stressing about plans"
"And that's really why?"
“Why else would it be?” Because you’re having second thoughts?
I shrugged and he arched an eyebrow slightly.
"You're not getting the wrong idea about it are you?"
"And what would the wrong idea be?"
"I dunno but you did manage to convince yourself that I still loved Cayden"
"Well, we can move it back to June if you really want. Doesn't bother me" I said, trying not to let my disappointment show.
"You sure? I feel bad saying you can pick the date and then saying no to it" he said, sounding upset at himself.
I shrugged a teeny bit. "I don't mind when"
He kissed me and I kissed back kind of lazily, fighting the urge to pout and sulk my way into oblivion. He stroked my hair and I snuggled up to him a little bit. He cuddled me, kissing me softly when I was quiet.
"What’s up?" he asked.
"Dunno, just seems like there’s something on your mind"
I chuckled a little and it was almost nervous. Maxxie frowned a tiny bit and I kept my mouth shut. He played with my hair, obviously not pushing me for the reason behind my silence. I stayed quiet for most of the morning and I could tell Maxxie was worried. I tried to get dressed, giving him a baby smile when he helped me. I shut my eyes as he kissed my nose and he sighed a little.
"Seriously, what's wrong?" he asked.
"Who said anything was wrong?"
"It didn't have to be said"
"I have no idea what you're talking about"
"It just seems like there's something bugging you, but if you don't want to tell me, that's okay"
"There's nothing to tell"
He nodded a little. "Yeah. I'm gonna go get something in for lunch. Want anything in particular?"
I shook my head.
"'Kay" he kissed my forehead and went off to go get something to eat.
I sank back on the couch and tried to ignore what my head was telling me by watching cartoons. Unfortunately, my brain sort of forgot you don’t have to concentrate on cartoons so now I was watching some purple animal thing drill into me exactly why Maxxie was so set on pushing the date back.
He came back about an hour later with pizza and I kept my mouth shut, not trusting myself to speak.
"Sorry I took so long. Alex distracted me"
"No worries" I said quietly.
He frowned a little and sat with me. I kept my eyes glued on the screen, taking some pizza when he offered it to me. Maxxie just sat there with the box on his lap. I ate some even though I wasn’t hungry anymore and he didn’t touch it at all. I tried not to notice and chewed the tiny bite of pizza I’d taken a little bit more. He shifted in his seat a little and a pack of cigarettes fell out of his pocket. I picked them up, looked at them and then handed them back. Is it bad that I really don’t care anymore?
"Thanks" he mumbled.
I sort of nodded a little and went back to staring at whatever cartoon was on TV.
"I'm gonna go steal someone's roof key" Maxxie said after a while, getting up. "You're welcome to join me if you want"
I sort of nodded again but didn’t move. Well it’s not exactly like I could’ve made it up to the roof, is it? Maxxie grabbed a couple beers from the fridge and went off to steal his neighbour’s key. I stayed on the couch for a little bit, trying to get my head to be quiet. I gave up after a few minutes, shuffling into the bedroom. When all else fails...go to sleep.
