Ranette was sceptical about me meeting this girl who had called out of the blue, but I thought I might as well. I mean, what harm could it do as long as we were out in an open place? Anyway it would be a distraction from the phone call to Jake, and Annie's disappearance to Scotland. The sad thing was, i couldn't even find her. The doctors wouldn't tell me anything, an order from Jake apparently, and so I was in the dark. My only hope was that she would try to make contact with me. But enough of that. It upsets me too much. I turn to Ranette, who is sitting on the kitchen table with a disapproving look on her face.
"Sure you're coming?"
"Yeah, I want to make sure you're safe."
"Well then, let's go." I locked the door and headed out, my arm around Ranette's shoulder. When we reached the starbucks we had chosen to meet at, Ranette kissed my cheek then grabbed a chair by the window while I grabbed two coffee's.
We sat for a while and watched the people go by, chatting about the party Ranette was putting the finishing touched on for tomorrow.
"Ahem." We look round, and there is a girl standing there.
"Um hi, are you Chase?"
"Uh no, I just wanted to know whether I could take this chair."
"Oh no sorry, we're saving it."
"Ok." She walked away.
"Thank god, she looked like a druggie," whispered Ranette giggling. We were in fits of giggles when someone cleared their throat above us. I looked up to see a girl who looked slightly younger than me smiling nervously.
"Hi, are you Rosalita?" she asked Ranette. Ranette shook her head.
"I'm Ranette, and this is Rosalita." She indicated to me. Chase turned to me a smiled.
"Hey, sorry about this. I know it must be really weird. I almost didn't come, because I thought it was really...well...you know."
"Yeah." I stood and looked her over as I shook her hand. She was pretty, but in a really strange way. She had the androgynous look which she fed with a bob-like spiky red hairstyle that clashed in a fascinating way with her bright blue eyes. A white strapped top and skinny jeans covered with a green hoody adn leather jacket completed her look. At least she was cool. She seemed to like the way I looked too.
"I love the piercing." She offered and I grinned and nodded.
"You want to sit?" I gestured to the chair.
"Thanks." She sat, and then after a few minutes, she laughed awkwardly. "So...."
"Who did you say your dad was?"
"Peter Alexandria. I took my mum's name after he left."
"So, what exactly are we supposed to do?"
"Well, I guess we should just get to know each other. I mean we are related."
"I suppose. Ok, well the easiest way would be twenty questions. Do you want to go first?"
"No, you can."
"Okay. One, what do you do?"
"I'm a photographer and artist in London."
"Cool. Two, favourite film."
This carried on for several minutes until we had finished her round. Now it was her turn.
