Hadley: Moving...Mature

Working with Brent was...interesting, to say the least. I knew the guy never really liked me all that much but this was just insane. I pretty much turned up, had him tell me what to do and then give me the cold shoulder til lunch. I was genuinely almost afraid to ask him where to put a couple odd books that didn’t really seem to belong anywhere. So to be honest it was kind of a relief when my lunch break finally came. Plus I was getting to see Maxxie, of course, and who wouldn’t be glad to see him?

So when he showed up with a folder full of stuff about houses and apartments closer to Keck than where we lived now, I wasn’t entirely sure what to think. I looked through them again as Maxxie went to get coffee and tried not to frown a little. Did I want to move? Did I not want to move? Did I only want to stay there because it was Maxxie’s place and it’s not fair to make him move?

Maxxie came back over with two coffees and sat down, trying to sort out his hair which looked like it’d been messed up. What did I miss? He grumbled and I chuckled.

"The straight boy muzzed up my hair" he whined and I tried not to giggle.

"Poor baby"

He scowled and messed up my hair. "You have the straight germs then"

I scrunched up my nose. Are we ignoring my straight germs? "I'm immune to straight germs"

"Can I be immune too?"

"Hmm, I guess. Especially considering half my germs are technically straight"

He huffed and I laughed a little.

"Nothing Bunny boy. I'll just never understand the attraction to women" he shrugged.

"I guess the fact that there's something to play with here," I patted my chest, "might have something to do with it"

I smirked. "Says the one with boobs"

He scowled and I grinned.

"They're not boobs" he said just before the guy that served him walked past our table. "Damien, do I have boobs?"

Damien didn’t look. "Yup"

Maxxie looked more than a little annoyed at his response and I giggled.

"I feel victimized" he pouted and I rolled my eyes, kissing him.

He hummed and kissed back, making me smile.

"Do I have to go back to work?" I asked, really not looking forward to it.

I whined a little at that. You’re s’posed to stick up for me, dude.

"I'd say ask Brent, but being Cay's best friend, I don't think that'd be such a good idea" he pecked me on the lips.

"I'd be scared to ask anyway. The guy's barely said a sentence to me"

"Really?" he asked, arching an eyebrow.

I put my head on the table. Okay, I sort of threw my head down on the table. "I should've just gone to Starbucks or something"

"He'll warm up to you eventually, Bunny. It'd be hard not to"

I groaned and he shifted round, hugging me. I just sighed a little.

"Cheer up, it's only been a few hours. It'll get better"

"He hasn't liked me for like eleven years"

"Well show him that you're not the kinda guy he thinks you are"

"By being as good a friend to him as you were to me when we first met" he shrugged, "or something like that"

I whined a teeny bit at that. "I don't even know why he doesn't like me"

"Because he's Cay's best friend"

I pouted a little. "Caleb doesn't hate Cayden"

"Yeah, but Caleb loves everyone"

"Does he?" I laughed.

He giggled. "As far as I can tell"

"Even John?"

"Can't say I ever heard his views on John" he said and downed his coffee.

I just sipped at mine as he turned back to the stuff about the houses and apartments.

"Anyway... any of these look good?"

"I haven't really looked at them all yet but there's a couple nice places"

"I can go back and book a viewing, if you want"

I smiled. "It's up to you, I don't mind"

"You're more indecisive than me" he smiled slightly.

"That technically was a decision"

He huffed and I giggled.

“I guess we can go through them more later" he shrugged and I chuckled.

"You always shrug when I say I don't mind"

"That would be 'cause I'm more indecisive than you"

I kissed him and he kissed back. I hummed and he put the stuff back in the folder.

"C'mon, you. You'll be late getting back at this rate"

"Maybe Brent might speak to me then"

"Yeah, but not for a good reason. I'll walk you back" he smiled and I smiled back.

He took my hand and I leant on him. Can you blame me? It probably just seems like I’m being childish but seriously, I swear Brent has something against me. He moved his hand around to my waist and I hummed.

"Can you stay at the store for a bit? Brent seems to like you so he shouldn't mind, right?"

"As long as he doesn't hold me responsible for the state Cay's in..."

"He won't"

"How do you know that?"

"I just know" I could tell he wasn’t entirely convinced. "And if he does, which he won't, I'll stick up for you" I huggled him as much as I could considering we were walking and he kissed the top of my head.

I smiled. "No problem"

"And let me know if he keeps up the cold shoulder with you, too. I'll see what I can do"

"My knight in shining armour" I giggled and he giggled as well.

"I dunno about that. I thought I was the one that wore the dresses"

"Yeah but I can't help you if you're a damsel in distress. I'm a bunny, remember?"

"I'm sure we can find you some bunny shaped armour"

I laughed and he kissed me. I kissed back and before I knew it he was holding open the door to the book store.

"After you, m'lady" he winked.

"Sorry, I forgot rabbits wore dresses" I smirked a little and he gently pushed me inside.

I smiled a little and pulled him in with me. My smile fell a little bit as Brent looked up from what he was doing. I felt a little bit better when Maxxie squeezed my hand.

"Hey, Brent" he said.

The End
