Hadley: AnaemicMature

Remind me why I’m waiting to be looked at by a doctor.

Oh yeah, because Cayden had to go and upset Maxxie and stupid little me said I’d do anything to cheer him up. Ugh, stupid move, Hadley. I sat with Maxxie in a waiting room, fighting the urge to just get up and leave. I seriously do not like people touching me. Well, people I don’t know. I’m fine with someone like Maxxie or Caleb touching me but some random doctor I met like five minutes ago? No. No way. Eventually it was my turn to be looked at so I got up, begrudgingly, and followed the doctor to one of the examination rooms. God, how long til he starts prodding me?

“So, Hadley, what can I do for you?” he asked once we’d gotten there. Oh, we’re on first name basis now are we?

“Um, well, personally I don’t think there’s anything wrong with me but...” I sighed. “I’ve been really tired for a while now. And dizzy. And my appetite’s pretty much non-existent”

Doc nodded. “I see. Have you blacked out at all?”

“A couple times”

“Would you say you eat a balanced diet?”

“I guess. When I have an appetite, anyway”

He nodded again and wrote something down. “Alright, we’re going to do a blood test because you’re symptoms don’t really specify anything. To be honest it sounds a lot like anaemia but that all depends on your iron count”

Next thing I know, a nurse has come in and jabbed a needle in my arm and it’s bye bye blood.

Guess what. I have anaemia. Nothing major really, I just have to take an iron supplement and I think they said B12 supplement and just generally eat more iron. No biggie. Well, I don’t think so anyway. Maxxie seems to take it like it’s the end of the world. I arched an eyebrow at him and I could tell he was trying not to be so horrified by it all.

“Chill. It’s not like I’m gonna die” I chuckled.

"I knew I should've gotten you to a doctor sooner" he muttered and I laughed.

"Seriously, dude. Chill, it's nothing serious"

He scowled at me a tiny bit and I pecked him on the cheek. It’s seriously nothing. So I have to take some pills every day and be less of a bitch about what I eat. Big deal. I mean, come on, I don’t even need an operation or anything. You would’ve thought I’d just been diagnosed with something life threatening the way he was taking it. He hugged me and I hugged back, smiling a little.

"I'll get you some iron tablets or something on the way back"

"Mmm. They said I need B12 supplements as well or something"

He nodded and I chuckled again.

"Better stock up on spinach. That's high in iron, right?"

He laughed slightly. "   You     can. Spinach is disgusting"

I whined a little. You don’t have to tell me, bro. "I know it's disgusting"

He kissed my cheek. "Just get some supplement tablets from a health food place? It's boring taking pills, but they're not gross at least"

"I will. The doc said I need to be less fussy about what I eat, though"

He chuckled slightly and winked as he said "I'll learn how to cook. If you can put up with lumps of carbon to start with"

"Your carbonara wasn't bad" I smiled and he smiled too.

"Liar"

I shook my head, humming as he hugged me a teeny bit tighter. He kissed me and I kissed back with a smile. He smiled back and I kissed his forehead.

"C'mon, I want pizza"

He took my hand and I squeezed his as he led me outside and eventually to a pizza place. I’m thinking pepperoni. Or maybe spinach... No. No spinach.

The End
