What had I done since Maxxie’s last visit? Nothing much apart from sit in bed, bored and lonely. Which is exactly what I was doing when he walked in, all smiles. I had to smile back though. C’mon, how can I not smile at Maxxie?
"How you doing?"
"Next time you come, bring a shotgun"
He laughed. "I can bring a book instead if you want"
"What like reading? I know I work in a bookstore but really?"
He rolled his eyes. "Fine. I'll bring a porn magazine instead. Better?"
I considered it. Porn in hospital… Maybe not. "I'd still prefer the shotgun"
"Well as soon as you're allowed to go out and do stuff, I can take you somewhere"
"See, that's one of the fun things about being under observation... Ugh, I'm bored out of my fucking mind"
"I should probably be offended by that"
I chuckled. "Why?"
"Aren't my visits entertaining enough?" he pouted.
"They don't last long enough"
"Hadley's hanging out with Caleb at the airport at the moment, so I guess you have me for a bit longer today"
I sighed. "And then when you go I'll be just as bored as I was before"
He chuckled. "Aren't there any pretty nurses around here then?"
"All chicks. And dude, have you ever tried jerking off in a hospital?"
He shook his head. "Never been hospitalised long enough"
"The second you even think about it it feels like someone's watching you"
"Sneak off to the toilets?"
"Doesn't help one bit"
"That sucks" he said with a half smile. You don’t even know the half of it.
"If they keep me in here much longer I'm seriously gonna bang the little matchstick of a kid a couple beds down" Actually, he is quite hot…
Maxxie giggled. "Have they said when you'll be allowed to go do stuff yet?"
"Nope but get this... I mgiht be allowed a pudding cup tomorrow"
"I'm surprised they're not trying to shove stuff down your throat if they think you've got anorexia" he said, smiling.
"Something about not rushing my system"
"Want me to sneak out to the iHop and get you something?"
"Could you bring the entire place to me?"
He laughed. Don’t even think I’m joking. "I don't have that much money, I'm afraid"
"You're useless" I smirked.
"Yeah, I know. I haven't figured out how to sell a house in England from over here just yet"
"It's called a plane"
"I don't wanna go back over there" he scrunched up his nose and I almost wondered if he’d picked it up from Hadley. "I've kinda been putting off emailing my mum back. She'll see me around and spaz"
"Take Hadley. Go tell Gramps I discovered the fountain of youth" Awh man, Gramps is gonna kick my ass if he finds out about all this.
He smiled. "I might not even end up selling the house. At this rate, I'll be selling up my apartment and moving out of Hollywood"
I arched an eyebrow and he scowled.
"Although the mental image of me hitting him should amuse you for a while. The last couple of weeks have brought out a violent side of me that I didn't know existed" he half smiled.
I laughed. Maxxie hitting someone?
"I should go learn how to punch someone properly"
"Yeah, you punch like a girl"
He scowled again and I chuckled before putting my serious face on. "So, I have a question"
Cue Maxxie’s curious face.
"Say you did pack up and move back to England, hypothetically and all... What about Hadley?"
He frowned. "I wouldn't move if he didn't want to"
"What if he thought he wanted to?"
"I guess I'd take him out for a few weeks and see how he likes it"
I smiled at that. C’mon, Cayden, did you really expect anything else?
"Why'd you ask?"
"C'mon, Cay, you don't just ask shit like that for no reason" he said, arching an eyebrow at me.
I kind of shrugged. "Just looking out for my little bro"
He smiled slightly. "Don't worry, I'll take care of him. And I'm not about to piss off to a bog in the middle of nowhere with him"
I laughed slightly.
"There was a reason I moved away from it, y'know"
"I'm just worried, y'know?"
"I guess I've just always been scared that he'd jump at the first opportunity to get out of here, no matter where he'd end up"
He chuckled. "I love how the two of you act like me and my mum together, but apart you actually care about each other more than you let on"
I blushed a little. "He's my baby bro, I'm s'posed to look out for him"
He hummed, smiling, and I blushed a little more.
"He cares about you, too, he's just not as good at admitting it as you" he laughed slightly.
He nodded again and smiled. "Don't tell him I said that, though"
I laughed slightly. "My lips are sealed"
He sighed. "I should probably reply to that email from my mum sometime soon"
"Still dodging her then"
"Mhm. She even got hold of my number and tried to call me a couple of times. I was busy trying to stop Alex from getting killed though, so I kinda had a good reason to ignore her that time, at least"
"Don't dodge her forever, dude"
"You might have to help me write the reply. I'll end up bitching, otherwise"
"Alright but you've gotta do something for me in return"
"What would that be?"
I bit my lip. How shit a brother am I that I have to ask him to do this? "Find out Hadley's favourite band for me"
He looked vaguely surprised. "Sure"
He shrugged. "S'okay. If it's any consolation, he doesn't like anything I like. Apart from All Time Low"
I laughed. His taste in music didn’t go to shit when I left, thank God. "He's got good taste then"
Maxxie glared at me. "I hate the both of you sometimes, y'know that?" I guess Hadley’s given him the rant about his music being shit as well.
"Nah, you love us"
"Dude, you don't even like Fall Out Boy. They were Hadley's favourite band last time I checked"
"They're okay. Just not something I listen to all the time. Deal with it"
I started humming Fall Out Boy at that. I would’ve started singing but some doctor or nurse’d no doubt rush in and be like “you’re having fun! This has to stop right now!”
Maxxie laughed slightly. "I'm gonna go get my laptop quickly, and you can help me be civil to my mum. Want me to pick anything up for you on the way?"
"Nah, I'm good"
"Sure. I'll be like, ten minutes" he said with a smile and left.
