Light trickled in through the blinds and woke me from my sleep. I stretched and felt the aches from my job last night appear. Well, at least I had time to relax now. I rolled my eyes at my own thought. As if I could ever relax. Every day I woke up I wanted to be out there again, doing the only thing I knew how.
I rolled out of bed and went to take a shower, washing away the sweat that I hadn't cared about ten hours previously. My hair hung around me in tendrils; bright red and stretching all the way to my waist. I turned off the shower and dried myself, letting the hairdryer do its magic. Combat trousers and a white top later, I wass ready for whatever the day might throw at me. Which with my luck was probably a few bullets and a knife.
The doorbell rang and I froze, half way through spreading butter on my toast. I hadn't been told I was getting a visit today. I hadn't ordered anything and I didn't have new neighbours. I gripped the knife I was holding and slipped over to the peephole. A man in a suit stood outside.
"Who is it?"
"You are Sasha Vadrielle?"
"I didn't ask who I was moron, I asked who you were."
"My name is Jeremy Simmons and I'm with the CIA. I would appreciate it if you would allow me inside so i could talk to you privately."
CIA huh? No way was I getting on his bad side. They could have me deported in a day if they wanted. I opened the door, hiding the knife behind my back.
"Come in, Jeremy." I shut the door behind him and returned to buttering my toast, keeping a wary eye on him and a tight grip on the knife.
"Miss Vadrielle, the CIA have been watching you for the past year, and we have decided that we like what we see."
"Uhuh. Sounds a bit creepy if you ask me." I crossed my arms, the knife clearly visible. He glanced at it for a second before continuing.
"We are organising a team of highly proficient people to operate outside the law in a mission to prevent a threat to the country. We want you on this team."
It didn't sound like a request. I took a bite out of my toast and waited for him to continue.
"If you're interested, meet us here on Friday night."
