Gemme: I Don't CareMature

I stayed on his lap for a while, just thinking. I needed some flowers; I also needed to compose myself. In about two hours I should be there. Ike would be going then too, lilies and roses. White and red, mothers favourite I’d pick them up at the florist when I went, I would normally go on my own but I knew Luca was home sick, it would do him no harm to come with me I’m sure. After a little while longer I sat up, turning to him. “You best get ready. I don’t want to be late. We’ll catch the 12:25 to Cameron.” I stated whilst putting on a little mascara and red eye shadow, red was mother’s favourite colour.

From his reflection I saw him shoot me a confused gaze, "late for what?"

"To visit mother’s grave. We always go at the same time, the time it happened."

"Oh... right." He disappeared and reappeared at my door in a matter of moments, he wore a pair of black skinny jeans and the same white top as last night.

"I'm sorry to bring you along; I just thought that you may want to visit Cameron again. You don't have to be with me when I go to the cemetery."

"No, s'ok, I don't think I'll go to the cemetery though, if Ike's gonna be there."

"Of course, feel free to go where you like." I nodded, grabbing my key and glancing at my watch before I walked out the door. He nodded slightly and I took his hand, squeezing it gently. “There is no way to disgrace me there. There is no body you see, we never got it back from the police. We could have used our powers but we thought it best not to meddle further. Ike shan’t do anything to you either. You’d be lucky if he even speaks a word.”

I liked where we lived, there was a train station so close. So we go there quickly and had to wait for the train.  "Ike hates me. I won't bother him. I wouldn't want to end up in a fight with him and 'disgrace' you."

"I didn't mean it like that; I just found no other way to put it."

"Whatever, it's not like I don't know I'm trailer trash."

"You're not." He raised an eyebrow and I found myself repeating myself."What? You're not."

"Gemme, my mom was a whore, my dad was a wife beater and I was born and raised - badly - in the back of a trailer. You don't get much more trailer trash than that." He smiled wryly.

"Just because your mum and dad were like that doesn't mean you have to be."

"No, you're right. Neither of them were drug addicts. Shall we go?" He motioned toward the train that had just pulled into the station and the doors swung open.

I nodded and stepped on, waiting till we got to a seat until I spoke. "but you're not a wife beater or a whore."

"I got my temper from my dad. I've come close enough."

"Only when I've done something really wrong, you're not like that."

"You didn't do anything wrong, though.”

"It would have looked that way from your point of view, I would have thought the same where I in your position." He gazed out the window in silence and I sighed. "Damn it, I know you're different.”

"Okay. Look, let's not argue, yeah?"

"Yeah, I guess, but if anything you've protected me more than being a threat to me."

"Hmm, when I was shot, the guy that tried to rape me, not Ben the other..." Crap Gemme you big mouthed fool!

"Ben... tried to rape you?" Something started shaking, I didn’t look around to see what I just glanced at the floor, not replying. I had already dug a hole I didn’t want it any deeper.

"He is a dead man walking," Luca growled.

I shook my head furiously, "No! Don't Luca." I pleaded. He wasn’t listening, but after a while he turned to me, “why didn’t you tell me before!?” I didn’t look up, I just mumbled into the floor. "I didn't want you to hate yourself for not being there. I knew what you would try to do to Ben even though he was angry with his girlfriend and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

"That's not gonna stop me wanting to rip his head off."

“Please, don’t.” I pleaded, looking up to see his raging chocolate eyes. I wish I had kept my head down.

"He tried to rape you, Gemme. It doesn't matter what excuse he used, he needs to be taught a serious lesson."

"But he failed, no harm was done!" I don’t know why I was defending him so much, but I felt like I had to, I dunno I didn’t want to see him hurt.

"Does that make any difference?" No, I guess not...

"I already taught him a lesson, you don't have to!" Mmm, that must have hurt.

"You are the least aggressive person I know. How did you teach him a lesson?"

"I umm... bit him." I wasn’t about to go into details, but I feared I may have to.

He paused and looked at me, holding back a snort of laughter. "I still think he should be taught a lesson," he muttered, shaking his head.

"Luca, no!" I think I was defending him because he had helped me, no harm was done and I realised why he was doing it.

“Why the fuck not? Did he really think he would get away with it?" His voice rose again and he punched the edge of the table we were sitting at.

"Because he helped me as well; no harm was done and I understood why he did it and its all fine! There is no reason to stir up old news now." He growled wordlessly through gritted teeth.

"I just don't see how beating Ben up will help."

"It'll make me feel better." ??

"But he hasn't done anything to you."

He gave me an almost exasperated look. "It's Benny for fuck's sake! He doesn't need to do anything."

“I give up, Luca." I sighed as I got off the train, Luca following me some time after.

“Sorry.” He muttered but I kept walking.

“Whatever,” I waved a hand dismissing him and waited till we were outside the station before I spoke again. “Okay, well I’m going to go down to the florist and pick up the flowers before going to the cemetery. You do what you want, I don’t care. I’ll meet you back here in about an hour or two.” He nodded and walked off and I shrugged, setting off in the direction of the florist.
