I looked to him as he paid the bill, then rose, offering his hand for me to take, which I did with glee. I couldn’t help the rising feeling as Luca led me back to the car and picked up the blanket and wine before leading me down to the beach. “This is too perfect.” I muttered as I took his hand once more, heading down to the beach.
"Too perfect?" he asked, surprised and I couldn’t help but smile as we got to the beach and I committed a little selfish crime, I made everyone on the beach pack up and leave.
"It's wonderful, Luca. I hardly see how it can get better."
"By not going back to the bus tonight, I don't think I wanna be shacked up with a bunch of guys so soon after this," well that was fair enough, but I hoped he meant getting a room and not sleeping on the sands.
"Yeah, I guess all I need now is to sit down on these golden sands and lay in your arms."
"That was the plan. With our alcohol free wine," he chuckled slightly and set out the blanket a little way from the edge of the sea.
"Hey, you could've got alcoholic wine if you wanted to," I sighed, settling down on the blanket, before he did.
"No, you don't drink. It would have been stupid to get alcoholic wine for a person that doesn't drink." He had a good point, but, if he got it I would’ve drank it. I would’ve told him that, but, I didn’t want an argument.
“Thank you,” I murmured, "I feel so special; you shouldn't treat me like this."
"I hardly deserve it."
"Of course you do. If I can't treat the woman I love to dinner and a bottle of wine on the beach, who can I do it for, hmm?"
"I dunno," I shrugged; tempted to say Damien but... it wasn't worth it. He smiled and slipped an arm around my waist as we watched the waves in a peaceful silence for a few moments.
After a while I felt boredom creeping in again, so I decided to speak, hoping I wasn’t interrupting one of his thoughts. "I don't know how to repay you for this," I mumbled not taking my eyes from the ocean.
"You don't have to, Gemme. It's a date, not a debt," I know that, it just feels like I’m sponging off of you.
"But I just feel like I do. A date's meant to be for the both of us too."
"It is for both of us. I'm enjoying it too."
"Good." I nodded, falling silent for a few more moments, "I love you."
"I love you too," he smiled, kissing me on the cheek gently, I was just about to turn round to kiss him when I saw a girl, I was too caught up in the moment to tell them to go away.
“Oh, my, God, it’s you, Lizzy, it’s him!” The woman screeched and I sighed heavily as Luca turned round to look at him. "It is you, isn't it? Oh my God, oh my God!" The woman chanted. "I'm like your biggest fan."
"No I am," Lizzy protested.
"We're like your biggest fans!"
He half-smiled, "that’s cool. I'll see you at the next show then."
"Can we like, sit with you? Why did you cancel your last show? Did something happen?" I sighed, looking out at the horizon instead of Luca’s eyes... which I missed already.
"Sorry girls, I'm on a date," he told them firmly, "I'll make it up to you if you find me after the gig tomorrow, okay?"
"Aww," they pouted together, looking at Luca with puppy-dog eyes... I focused on the waves; suppressing my urge to drown them... he's mine bitches...
"I'm well and truly taken," he smiled, turning to kiss me firmly.
I pulled away, looking at them, "you can leave now." I smiled, as best I could without being too harsh and they growled before walking off.
"I hate being nice to annoying fans," he grumbled as soon as they were out of earshot, flopping back on the blanket with a sigh, I collapsed, lying down beside him, nodding.
He rolled onto his side and smiled at me. "Well done for not hitting them over the head with the bottle," he laughed slightly.
"That's not my style," I smiled weakly back, suddenly everything had gone and I no longer felt the loving atmosphere, I guess I just wanted to go home.
"Mmm..." he trailed off thinking for a moment, "I s'pose that's more my style." He patted himself on the back, "well done me for not snapping."
"Yeah, I'm proud,” I nodded, looking up to the dimming sky but in his silence I turned my head to look at him, only to be met by his lips brushing against mine softly. I kissed him back with a smile, before returning my head to the sky. “That’s just ruined everything.”
"I know," he sighed unhappily, "people are so blind. Couldn't they see we're just trying to enjoy ourselves?"
"I guess they only saw you, alone, I'm insignificant to them. You're famous now."
The bottle trembled slightly as his expression darkened, "yeah, I wish I wasn't." I couldn’t help but feel I was just making it worse.
"You don't mean that, your songs are on the radio, you have some amazing gigs, devoted fans, its going great for you!"
"If it meant I could enjoy my first date without being interrupted, I'd quite happily go back in time and stop myself getting the band together."
"Don't talk like that."
He sighed and relaxed his expression slightly, "I s'pose you're right, I just wish we could have one evening together where it all went perfectly for once."
"I know me too, but, it's not all that bad we still have a full bottle of wine and a beautiful sunset." With a nod, his smile returned and he draped his arm over me. "Not that I'm much interested in the wine." I laughed, gazing up to the orange, streaked sky; I couldn’t help but feel I was acting though, I still felt the moment had passed.
"No, but it would have been weird if I hadn't brought something with us," he smiled, preferring to look at me rather than she sky
"I dunno... Just felt right."
I turned my head to meet his eyes, "what's so interesting?"
"You," he grinned, giving me a quick kiss on my lips.
I laughed, "you constantly surprise me."
"I do my best."
I laughed harder, shaking my head slightly as I stared at him, "what would I do without you, hmm?2
I pushed him playfully. "We've been through this before."
He just hugged me firmly, "I know. I quite like you being mad enough to love me, personally."
"Nothing mad about it, plenty of people love you."
"They don't know me though. You do."
"Rayn knows you."
“Yeah, and he's got more than a couple of screw loose."
There was a long pause and I cursed myself before he spoke, "Alice is just a kid."
"Fine, you win, I'm insane."
“I love you.”
He rolled onto his back and stared blankly up at the sky, linking his hands underneath his head.
"I love you too." I whispered, finally glad he had stopped staring at me... it was making me a little paranoid. A smile pulled his lips up as he closed his eyes for a moment. When he opened them again I made sure I had moved on top of him, my arms on either side of his head, looking down at him. He lifted his head slightly and kissed me warmly. "So... I'm staying here tonight." I murmured, falling so I rested on his chest.
Humming an "mmm" he linked his hands in the small of my back, his arms holding me comfortably where I was. I turned my head so I was listening to his heart, my eyes drifting closed. "I didn't expect you to take me up on my offer."
"Dunno, just didn't seem like something you'd agree to."
"I love you, I'd probably agree to a lot of things for you," he laughed gently, "with a few exceptions."
"Oh really, what would they be?"
"Castration and celibacy."
"Well, celibacy is out of the window and there's no need for the other one."
"Exactly. I guess I'm safe, then," he smiled.
"Definitely," I smiled back, kissing him passionately. "I mean no sex until we're married? That'd probably never happen."
"Bit late for that anyways."
"Yeah..." I murmured, drifting off at the thought of Luca ever getting married, which was just funny. "But, I was never a fan of that crap anyhow."
"Sex is too good to wait that long."
"I'm glad you agree," he murmured.
"Oh yes, you can't even wait two weeks if I remember."
"Don't think I could do that these days. I'd be pushing it if I went without for more than a few days."
"Hmm, you seem to be doing well so far."
"This evening is special in many ways. One of them is that this is the first time I have ever been properly polite to a girl."
"What are the others?"
"I'm with you, it's our first proper date, I've managed not to cock it up somehow, and I'm having a gorgeous evening with my gorgeous girlfriend. Do I need any more?"
"No, I think that's enough." I smiled.
"Good," he smiled back.
"Now, how’s this evening gonna end?"
"That's up to you," he muttered
"What d'ya mean?"
"You choose. We can go to a hotel and enjoy being together, or we can go to a hotel and I make you a very happy girl," he laughed. "Your call."
"How can you make me any happier than I already am?"
"Three letter word beginning with 'S'," he laughed again, squeezing me gently.
"Hmm, the sea?" I wondered dumbly with a smile on my face.
"Umm, nope, I give up."
"Wanna go get a hotel room so I can give you a practical demonstration?"
"Hmm, I still have no idea what you're on about, so I think that might be best."
Kissing me, he pulled our bodies up so we were sitting, his arms still around me. "C'mon then," he muttered, smiling. I nodded and stood, grasping his hand. The blanket folded itself up and floated into his free hand, the wine bottle following it into his grasp before we walked back towards his car.
