Things were great, Luca was happy, I was happy, Alice was happy. Everything was going great... okay, the thing between Damien and Luca was still shaky but everything was amazing... until that day.
I was sat backstage and Alice was in the bus. Luca had just finished another gig and I was worried. My mind picked up a very angry person, marching straight this way. It could be nothing, so I told myself not to worry... but... I shook my head and leaned in to kiss Luca. He didn’t kiss me back, instead realising that I was upset. In fact, I didn’t get to kiss him at all. "What's up?"
"Alex is here." I mumbled.
"Alex? You mean Alice's real dad?" You know any other Alex?
"Yeah, the very same."
"Where is the fucker? I want a word with him," he muttered.
"No... I don't want to fight."
"I said a word, not a punch up."
"No, I didn't mean that sort of fighting either." I said sombrely
"What's wrong with that?"
"I'm sick of it all." I sighed, getting up and opening the door, just as Alex appeared. Luca just stood, watching.
“Gemme, I want Alice back.” Well, at least he gets straight to the point. Well, might as well grant him the same favours.
“No.” I shook my head, going to close the door on him. He pushed it back open and had a puzzled look on his face, what, he actually thought I would give her back?
“What? Why? You can’t deny me my right to have my kid back.”
“Why do you want her back?”
“I love her.”
“Oh, no, don’t make me laugh Alex. You don’t love her.”
“Then why would I be here?”
Luca stood up, moving so he was behind me. When I stood like this he loomed over me and, with the look on his face, scared the living daylights out of me. "If you loved her, you wouldn't have dumped her. Now go, before I get angry."
"I have a right to have my kid back, she's my own flesh and blood and who are you?"
He smiled slowly, scaring me even more. "I'm the one she's calling 'daddy' now. Answer for that one, Alex.
"What have you been telling her? You've been turning her against me!” I would have said something, but, I was stood between them and I didn’t want to spark a fight.
"I've not said a fucking thing to her about it, mate. I've just been friendly, and I haven't dumped her on someone else because I can't be fucked to look after her."
I decided to reply in a whisper, I never liked fighting. “You only want her, for the fame.”
“You only want her for the fame. Now she’s in the magazines, the papers, you can get money and fame from her. You don’t realise how wonderful she is. She’s something special and all you see is a profit.”
“And why are you with this deadbeat, huh? I mean, other than the fact he’s the lead singer of an up and coming band, why’re you with him?” How dare he? How dare him!?
"There's this thing called 'love', Alex. Ever heard of it?"
"Yeah, she loves you that much... she won't answer that question."
"Dude, you're lucky I haven't hurt you yet, to be honest. We don't have to answer to you."
"Yeah, before you place your love in her, you might want her to answer that question." He smirked.
"Also, one, you couldn't hurt me. Two, you're not gonna keep Alice."
"Wanna bet?" Luca's tone snapped and something behind me was beginning to vibrate.
I placed a hand on his chest, looking up into his eyes. "Don't."
"I told you not to piss me off," he growled, his fist clenching as he glared at Alex.
Alex just smirked back as I tried to stop Luca. I felt like a mouse trying to stop a Lion. "Stop it." He tore his eyes from Alex and looked at me for a moment, before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. While he closed his eyes I took the chance to break Alex's nose, sending him recoiling into the corridor I slammed the door, locked it and calmly walked back to the sofa. Ow, my hand. Ow, ow, ow.
"Now that's just not fair," Luca laughed, following me back to the sofa.
"I wouldn't batter him half to death." I smiled weakly as Alex banged on the door. I’m not an angel, I know that. But I still don’t like fighting. It’s torn us apart too many times.
"How’s about a quarter, I can compromise." I looked at him, a grim look on my face as I shook my head.
"I'm gonna go back to the bus."
"Okay." I nodded and he left, but the door was now open and Alex, I’m sure wouldn’t be far away. I brought my knees up to my chest and firmly struck my head on them.
