The chopper sped over the city following the construct that had my scientist. Smoke billowed from derelict glass and steel towers; former offices where the rich got richer and Mr and Ms Average wasted away their lives. After all, I should know.
"Freya," someone said calling me back to our situation. I looked out the front of the helio to see we were gaining on the mechanis. Apollo looked at me.
"Your orders sir?" I frowned. The mechanis still had the squint we'd been sent to rescue. I briefly wondered why it hadn't killed her yet, but didn't dwell on it long. She was alive, so we still had to recsue her.
"Boss?" Hermes was looking at me now too, glancing back over his shoulder.
"Keep on it," I told him. I needed to buy time to think; Yes, we needed to act quickly, but if we shot at it, it might kill or injure the Doc and then we'd be back at square one We might be able to grab the squint in a fly-by but it would be risky as-
“Frey!” I turned to see the mechanis had stopped. That was weird. We hovered there for a heartbeat, staring at each other.
"Apollo..." I began, intending to get him to shoot the thing down, but stopped as the back of my neck began to itch. A nasty feeling curled in my gut.
"Take us down! take us down!" I screamed at Hermes, but I was too late. The chopper shook as we were hit by projectiles. The metal started groaning at the stress and we began to fall. I looked up at the mechanis and I could have sworn it was grinning...
