Maeve: Follow me

The people we had this year were just as normal as all the years before.  There was one, Winston Merrygold III, who didn't look like he would fit in.  There was another, now what was his name, Shote, who seemed nice and genuinely happy.  Why he would be on the first day of term I'm not sure.

We had been given mostly new students in our year so it should be fairly easy to show them around and chat to them.

Jenny Bayle was taking the other group of older students and I said hey as we passed in a corridor.  I knew her quite well.  We'd been at this school together for years but our close friendship groups had never merged together so I didn't see her that often.

'Right then listen up.  These will be your lockers for the year.  Each one has to be set with a code, don't forget this code or you may not be able to get back into it.'  I moved on down the corridor.

'You seem to be in a bad mood today.'  Rhiannon was walking next to me.

'No more than usual, I just can't be bothered with this today.'  I indicated the group of people following us.

'I hope we're not boring you.'  Shote was walking on my right hand side.

'No it's not that.  It's just so time consuming doing this every year and I'm sure no-one remembers anything I tell them.'

'Well in that case I will try and remember at least one thing you tell me.'

'Really?  Then what was my name?'  He screwed up his face as if he was thinking but I'm sure it was just a joke.

'It was Maud or Mary or maybe Maeve.'  He smiled knowing he'd got it right.

'Well done.'  I smiled back.

'It's a pretty name.'

'Thanks.'  I stopped and turned to face the rest of the group.  'This is probably one of the rooms you will spend most of your time in, the upper year's common room.  Everyone in.'

The End
