After much persuading, Zakhon was finally coaxed onboard the ship. I stood at the rail, watching the proceedings. Jack strode up and down the deck in his pirate costume, talking nonsense, and generally looking like an over excited rooster.
"Ahoy ye Landlubber! Cast off ye lines and hop to make sail!" He shouted once everyone was settled.
"Who are you talking to?" Destran asked, obviously annoyed.
"Who ye be talkin' to!" Jack retorted. "Cast off! Make sail! MOVE THE BOAT!" He enunciated. Jack moved towards the wheel of the ship, taking hold of it and shouting orders. Destran quietly gave orders to everyone more understandably, and finally we got the ship moving. I moved to the bow of the ship once we were sailing smoothly, to take in the phenomenon. We were floating on waves! It was impossible, and I loved every second of it!
"Ahoy matey!" Jack came up behind me.
"Ahoy," I replied a bit more hesitantly, turning around. "Matey... Why are you talking like th--" I took in his outfit, huge red coat, white ruffly shirt, tight black pants tucked into shiny boots and to cap off the whole thing, a huge hat with a large plume peeking over the brim. "what are you wearing?"
"This be my pirate captain uniform!" He growled, proudly. I shook my head. "Don't be thinkin' like that! You know you love it!" He stepped closer to me, I pushed back against the railing.
"Don't you have a ship to sail?" I asked, trying to push him away. He bounded back, jovial.
"Oh, yes! Thank ye for remindin' me missy!" And with that, he was gone. I heaved a sigh of relief and turned back to the ocean.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Yara said quietly, having appeared by the rail next to me. I nodded.
"Did you miss it?" I asked. She thought for a moment.
"Yes, but I wanted to see more of the land, now I can have both." Yara smiled. I gave a returning smile and we went back to staring out at the waves.
The rest of the voyage continued in much of the same way, Jack strutted about issuing orders no one could understand. Destran perused his map, Yara trying to help him, but then moving on to look out on the ocean. Lyra talked to Yara some, but she mostly had to help Zakhon, poor man, who was sick in a bucket the whole time. I kept at the rail most of the time, occasionally helping with the rigging, and looking out at the waves, until something happened.
Lyra and Zakhon had an argument. it was something about Jack saving Lyra and how Zakhon though maybe she loved him instead, and things like that. I tuned it out mostly, it just seemed like a simple lovers' quarrel, eventually they would kiss and make up. But then Lyra broke away from Zakhon and headed for the side.
We’re going around in circles here, I’m leaving” Lyra snapped at him.
“Where are you going?” Zakhon asked.
“Back to the corals, it seems as though you’d rather I’d have died instead of Jack saving me, so I’m leaving so that you can pretend that I did die whist you were trying to save me!” She shouted, sobbing. She walked towards the railing on the far side of the boat. With a last look at Zakhon, and a mouthed "I'm sorry" for Yara, who had stepped forward, Lyra dived off the edge of the boat, disappearing into the water.
Chaos reined. Yara ran to the railing, looking like she had every intention of following Lyra, Destran wrapped her in his arms, restraining and comforting at the same time. Zakhon screamed, his tattoos glowing like a beacon. Jack had stopped playing and looked serious. Destran looked at all of us over the top of Yara's head.
"Weigh anchor. I think we've done enough traveling for today." He said calmly. The anchor dropped into the water with a splash and all the the sails were taken down. The ship looked skeletal, dead.
"If we don't move, she may be able to find us again." Yara muttered, tears running down her face. She pushed away from Destran. "I need a swim." She said. Destran looked at her in alarm. She smiled slightly. "I will come back. I just need a little time." With that she also dove over the rail.
"How about we take a swim too, Lovely." Jack muttered in my ear. I leaped away from him, shocked for a moment. Then I shook my head,
"Always the comedian." I said. Jack looked almost hurt for a moment, then brightened.
"Oh well, there are more fish in the sea!' He said brightly. "Destran?" He drawled. Destran glared at Jack, murder in his eyes.
"Not on your life." He growled. Jack shrugged and moved back to the quarterdeck.
"9965 bottles of rum on the wall, 9965 bottles of rum!" He sang.
