“I have a little secret about you,” Jade smiled sinisterly.
I reddened slightly, what could she have on me? I dug around my memories for some deep dark secret. Did she know about my sister? I was starting to get nervous, what did she know about me that I couldn't remember? What if she was just playing a joke on me? “What?" I asked suspiciously.
“I’ve heard you,” she said as she turned her head away embarrassedly, “I’ve heard you sing."
I looked away as well...I hadn't thought of that...no one, not even Lucy had heard me sing. I never really thought I was all that great. “Thanks," I replied.
“We’ve never really spent time together,” Jade told me. “We should.”
I nodded and laid back to look at the sky. "Can you sing?" I asked.
“Oh William,” she grinned as she stared down at me, “course I can, that’s my great idea!” I laughed. "What?" Jade asked, slightly hurt.
“You’re so full of yourself,” I said.
Jade pursed her lips and I immediately wised I had just let it be. “Well thanks,” she said sourly.
“Don’t take it badly, it’s just your personality,” I said, trying to alleviate some of the tension. "Sorry."
“I didn’t used to be,” she whispered, I sat up, “Mum and Dad died, that was hard for me and my brother Max, but with him at work and me at school, there was no one around to encourage me. No one to tell me I was doing a good job, no one to smile and say, ‘You’re so good at that.’ I began to feel down again, and then one day a teacher overheard me singing and said I had a good voice, it made me feel so good, that I began to compliment myself. It happened more and more, I guess it’s become a habit.”
I began to rub her back...I hope Jake won't mind...“Sorry,” I apologized again.
“It’s fine,” she smiled, “I am trying to be modest, I really am.”
“I’ve never heard you sing,” I said smiling hopefully.
“Well, do you want to do a song for the show?” Jade smiled in return.
“Sure why not?” I said, turning to face her. “What do you want to sing?”
“One moment,” she put her finger up to quiet me and closed her eyes.
“What?” I asked quietly.
“Marc and Jake antics," she replied. “They’re thinking about doing a poem,” she said with a giggle.
I half-smiled. “That’d be funny."
“You can choose a song,” Jade replied as she zoned in again.
I smiled, then frowned as I noticed someone on the mountain. “Hey, what’s that thing on the mountain over there?” I asked.
“That, William, is the Prophet Moses,” she replied, grinning widely.
“How do you know?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I just do.” she replied.
"Is he coming here?" I asked.
"He seems to be headed here yes!" Jade replied excitedly.
I nearly jumped for joy, I had been brought up with the Bible and been a Christian for pretty much all my life! Now I was really going to get to see Moses! "Let's go get the others!" I said excitedly, heading inside with Jade following close behind.
