I lead Alila away from that place. I don't like the look of it. She's got blood all over her. Stupid adepts. I need time to think so I stop suddenly in mid run. Alila almost smacks into me. She obviously dying to ask me something.
"What is it?" I say.
"Well, I was just wondering. Since you know my name and I haven't told you it. I'd like to know how much you actually know about me." she demands. I sigh.
"Everything. I know everything about a person just by looking at them. And it works every time I look at them,so there's no point tryna keep secrets from me" I say matter-of-factly.
"I haven't got any-"
"I know. Hold on a sec. I need to see something" I press my fingers against my head. I'm really stressed. "Hey Marky!!!" I yell suddenly. Alila jumps out of her skin.
"What are you doing?" she says.
"Hold out your hand." I tell her. She holds out her hand. I drop a few crumbs there. A small bird comes ad lands on the floor a few yard away from us. It cocks it's head in the direction of Alila's hand. "It's OK. She's a friend" I say to it. The bird - who is called Marky - flits onto Alila's hand and eats the crumbs. She stares at it in amazement.
"Sup?" Marky says. Alila gasps
"It talks English?"
"No, you understand bird language for the minute. You wouldn't understand if I wasn't here, or if he wasn't touching you" I tell her. "Is there anywhere that I can take her?" I ask Marky.
"No. Well, not that I know of anyway. See you later" he flits off into the trees.
"Wow" Alila breathes. I laugh.
"Come on. We're gonna have to search for somewhere to stay. And also, I wouldn't take advantage of the fact that you don't feel pain too much if you don't wanna end up lookng like that all the time." I grin. She grins to and we set off walking to nowhere in paricular
