Bang bang bang ... bang! The wall fairly quivered from a rain of blows coming from the other side of the wall. Roy stared at it with a sour look on his face.
"Come on Marianne, really? Walling up a pretty young maiden is soooooo last century... or three. Let her out," Bert said.
"No." Marianne folded her arms and took a stubborn stance with her lips puckered like she'd just been sucking lemons.
"I'll get her out," Bert grinned eagerly as he gripped his solid leather night stick with both hands. The young cop was never so happy as when he got to do something violent. He pulled the stick back over his shoulder, ran forward and gave the wall a solid WHACK. The billy club as it's sometimes known, took on a life of its own and bounced off the wall - right into Bert's groin. The young cop doubled over, fell to his knees, and screeched bloody blue murder.
"Tsk tsk tsk," Roy clicked his tongue as he rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Rapunzel was walled up with magic. Only magic will get her out," he said.
"You might have mentioned that before I was crippled," Bert groaned.
"You didn't give me a chance. You just bungled ahead. Stop whining. You're not permanently damaged. The stick only hit you once. It could have turned on you and beat you senseless."
"Well that's a happy thought, now isn't it?" Bert grumbled as he painfully got to his feet. "What do we do now?"
"We make the old witch let her out. Wait - hold that thought."
Roy turned so fast that it was almost a spin. He caught Marianne by the collar just as she started to climb out the window on Rapunzel's braided rope of hair. He hauled her back into the room kicking and spitting threats.
"I'll turn you into a toad ... or a badger ... or ... or ... or ... a politician."
"If you were able to do that, you would have done so already. I'll ask nicely, now. Will you please let Rapunzel out of her walled up cage?" Roy said.
"No. You can't make me."
"Wanna bet? We'll just use you as a battering ram. You seem to be hard headed enough to break through. Bert, take her feet. I'll take her around the middle and pin down her arms."
Bert made a move toward the old woman, crouching down in order to grab her ankles.
"No, wait!" she yelled.
